President Elect Fred ran the meeting.

Steve recommended that the club merge the old Chapter 501-c-4 corporation with the newly formed Chapter 501-c-3 corporation to simplify the reporting requirements without changing our purpose.

It was voted by the Board of Directors to merge the 501-c-4 into the 501-c-3.

Steve reported that $2,000.00 has been raised by placemat ads and the goal is $4,000.00.  Try to get the contributions as soon as possible as April 15 is still the deadline and to clear for the next fundraiser, the Duck Race, at the end of June.

Fred and Bill Lawrence attended the Rotary Institute.  Bill’s discussion group, which included four women club presidents, addressed the difficulty of women fitting into the club and the difficulty of getting members to read the newsletter.  Fred’s group spoke about diversity.  Fred appreciates different cultures and celebrating their ways of dealing with life.  Some of the others in the group felt differently.  Fred shared a passage from “Century of Service” a book on Rotary history.  The first Rotary avenue of service, Community Service, was developed by Don Carter, a patent attorney who balked at joining Rotary just for the social aspect.  He wanted a purpose like doing good for others.  His friend suggested Don join and add his ideas to improve the setup of Rotary, which he did, there by becoming the father of Community Service.

“Lighting Up Rotary” (secret), Fred opened up the meeting to get suggestions from membership on how to make meetings more attractive and how to build membership.  He wants your suggestions, which he will act on in his year as President, 2014-2015.  He set up a chart to see what we would like more of and less of.  Please contact him with more ideas.

Other topics on his agenda included the Duck Race and possible joint meetings with other Rotary clubs.
