DUXBURY ROTARY CLUB
Tuesday, January 18, 2017 for the meeting of Jan. 25
 
President Steve pulled together a meeting of the American Legion, Duxbury Rotary Club, Duxbury Lions Club, Duxbury Kiwanis Club, South Shore Habitat and Plymouth Habitat to discuss creating “Veterans Build” (secret project) housing.  Steve spoke about how these groups can cooperate in creating affordable housing.  Jim Middleton the Executive Director of Plymouth Area Habitat for Humanity and Martine Taylor of the South Shore Habitat for Humanity spoke of the efforts of their groups and how they support each other.  Habitat is a national organization with many local affiliates.  Fred explained how funds could be raised through debentures – promissory notes.  Michelle is working on the idea that community banks can help facilitate mortgages.  Bob J. invited the various groups to join us at Trivia Night and explained what to expect.
 
SCHEDULE: Jan. 25, Joanne Moore will speak about enlarging the Senior Center.
Feb 18, Trivia Night at the American Legion Hall, at 7:00 PM.  The cost is $20.00 per person.  Bob is hoping for ten tables with ten participants per table.
 
GUEST: Paulo Ferocco was the guest of Jack O’Neil.  Paulo was a Rotary exchange student who lived with the O’Neils during his year in Duxbury.  He is now in the IT department of a large retail organization and he discussed how his company is competing with China for business, partly by using credit cards.
