Andrew McCawley spoke about the 25-year-old New England Center for Homeless Veterans.  It is housed in downtown Boston in their own building, which they are in the process of expanding.  Because of the tainted view of the word Homeless, the new name of the service will be Veterans Social Service Provider.  As time goes on, the number of veterans is diminishing, down from 27 million to 22.7 million now.  Some of the services that they provide are transitional supportive housing, not a shelter; a place to socialize and get clinical help; provide training and education and employment; and support and food.  130,000 meals are provided in a year.  Funds are raised privately, which bolster government assistance.

President Elect Eileen arranged for this program.

Items discussed at the Board of Director’s Meeting included the importance of training for new club officers at the District Assembly to be held May 9, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM, in Newport RI.  See Fred for details if you can go.

Also see Fred if you have a great story about Rotary and want it posted on the Rotary Face Book.

DUCK RACE: Fred has contacted Dave Arruda the inventor of the duct tape boats that Fred would like to have as a part of the duck race.  The boats are ten feet long, use PVC as a frame and are held together by $150.00 worth of duct tape.  Arruda is raising funds to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.  Fred would like to involve the High School Robotics class.  Hopefully corporate sponsorship could raise $1,000.00 with this project.

Steve reports that, so far, $1,250.00 has been raised for the placemat ads.  The goal is to raise $6,000.00 by May 1.  Be sure to see Steve’s email about the ads and former donors so that businesses do not get multiple requests.  Also please check the addresses of the businesses.

Paul is working on updating the three road signs adding the new hours of our meeting.

Lexie sent a note thanking the club for allowing her to share her story and to sell some of her cookbooks.

Chief Peter was vacationing in Florida so a pizza dinner was ordered.

MEMEBERSHIP: Steve contacted Chuck and found that he is still not able to walk.  He continues with therapy.

VISITOR: Terry Matichak was the guest of President Fred.  He has been a Duxbury resident for six months.  He is in the IT business providing Internet security for corporate data.

FINES/RAFFLE: Steve has confirmed the rental of an apartment in Florence Italy, but is concerned about the heat of summer with no AC.  Sandra’s mother-in-law is not well but has a good outlook.  Fred had a flood caused by winter cold that burst the pipes to his exterior taps.
