DUXBURY ROTARY CLUB

Wednesday, April 13, 2016 for the meeting of April 20

Jim Middleton, Executive Director of the Plymouth Area Habitat for Humanity, spoke about affordable housing, especially for “veterans” (secret word).  Spouses of killed veterans are included.  Habitat is building three houses in Plymouth, two of them for veterans.   The recipient of the home has to pay a reduced amount to purchase one, about 50%.  They also have to help build it.  The goal is to provide housing that cost 30% of a person’s budget.  Duxbury Rotary has singled out veterans housing as a primary cause to support and Jim welcomes the opportunity to work with us on this.  Steve arranged this meeting for us to learn more about this project and to offer our assistance as a hands on project, to help build a kit house.  These are designed and built by Dennis Michaud of Homebuilt, a company located in Acton, MA.  Michaud is an MIT graduate who developed this innovative kit built home which is made in a factory and assembled on site by volunteers.  No dangerous saws or equipment is needed.

PROGRAMS: The Trivia Night date needs to be sorted out, either May 21 or 28.
