DUXBURY ROTARY CLUB

Wednesday, January 25, 2017 for the meeting of Feb. 1

Joanne Moore Executive Director of the Duxbury Senior Center spoke about the request for funding for an expansion of the Center.  1), there is a need for office space and a medium size meeting room, 2), room to accommodate the growing number of seniors in Duxbury, 2,300 in in 2002 and 4,287 in 2016 and 3), accommodating community groups, which number 47 in 2016, and providing an annex to Town Hall.  Seniors use the building 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and the community uses it in the evening.  There were 41,000 visits to the center in 2016. For some seniors, visits to the center are their only way to get out of their homes, to meet and talk with others.  See the Duxbury Clipper Jan. 25 issue for much more information on the expansion.

Joanne thanked the club for sponsoring a table at the Senior Center Black Tie Bingo fundraiser.  It is a sell out with 145 people planning to attend.

President Steve worked with the members to assign Trivia Night tables.  Groups such as the Lions, Kiwanis, the American Legion and the Senior Center will be asked to join us in sponsoring a table. Tables cost $200.00.  There are ten tables, which accommodate ten people.  Even if you do not have a table, “ask” (secret) friends, family, neighbors and associates to help fill vacant seats at tables that are not full.  It is a fun evening and the $20.00 admission fee covers food.  The Legion will sell the 50/50 raffle tickets.  Bruce Schulman has created a poster to advertise the Trivia Night, which will be duplicated and placed around town and on the Senior Center Black Tie Bingo tables.

SCHEDULE: Come to meetings and urge others to attend.  There is important planning needed to prepare for Trivia Night.

Feb. 1, Dick Rothschild will speak about banning plastic bags in Duxbury.
Feb. 18, Trivia Night at the American Legion Hall at 7:00 PM.  The cost is $20.00 per person.
April 5, Craig and Claire McDonald will speak about their Himalayas Mountain trip.
