Presidential Ponderings

The President's Ponderings will be back next week

Yours in Rotary,

President Janette
Last Week's Speaker
Cr Prue Cutts, spoke to us on the role of women in local Government and what drove her to be part of it.
Prue has a Bachelor of Science with Honours (Psychology), a Diploma in Education and a Graduate Certificate in Career Development, and has spent the majority of her career has been within the education sector as a teacher (including kinder, primary, secondary, TAFE, adult education). For almost 20 years, she worked as a vocational psychologist and as a national business development manager.
She has always been active with community work, working with the organisations such as Heatherdale Community Action Group, the Heatherdale Creek Parklands Advisory Committee, the KBH Brumbies Junior Hockey Club and has volunteered across the community including the RSPCA, Box Hill Hospital and various primary schools.
She told us of her council work on issues such as neighbourhood character, open spaces, youth and the elderly, community health and wellbeing, affordable housing, reducing traffic congestion on our streets, and community and sporting facilities.
She painted a picture of the range of work of a Councillor and of her passion for helping people. Her enthusiasm for what she does was infectious.
Member Ben Stennett presents Prue with a certificate of appreciation for taking the time to talk to us.
PV System for EERN
President Janette presents club member Ian Armstrong, President of the Eastern Emergency Relief Network, with a cheque for $7,623.00 to pay for the PV system installed on the EERN buildings in Mitcham. The money was taken from the proceeds of the Bunnings BBQs.
Family violence forum cancelled
Unfortunately David Winter from MASH informs us that the #SayNO2familyviolence forum planned for this week has been cancelled due to lack of numbers, which is most disappointing, given the calibre of the speakers and the media exposure at the moment.
