Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds Project – in partnership with the Rotary Club of Flemington Kensington
This is an update on the project. Janette started the ball rolling earlier last year after the Multi District Conference where we first found out about the project.
Ben Stennett has spent a lot of time with the City of Whitehorse to get the project approved and supported by council so I thank Ben for his efforts. This process had to occur before we could move forward.
We now have 3 playgrounds within the City of Whitehorse that are due to be removed and are suitable for recycling/reinstallation overseas in Countries such as Sri Lanka and Fiji. Not all playgrounds can be recycled – if they are wooden or cannot be easily reassembled overseas, then we can’t use them.
Our role is to firstly take photos of the playground and send them to stakeholders. The photos are coded. We use these codes to mark all the playground parts so it can be reassembled correctly overseas. We do not disassemble the playgrounds. The City of Whitehorse use contractors to do this. We then need to transport the parts to Donations In Kind for storage and final transportation.
Rotary Club of Box Hill will now be known as RC Box Hill Burwood. They have officially changed their name with Rotary International.
