OUR MEETING LAST WEEK

Members shared stories of family wartime experiences ,and their own stories of visiting sites of historic battlegrounds and war cemeteries.

President Colin has sent me his own story entitled

Son of a Soldier Settler.

After the end of the Second World War hundreds of ex-service men and women took up the challenge of being “Soldier Settlers”.
They settled on land all over Australia. Local halls were built on land dotted all over the desolate plain of wherever. Together with the hall was normally a little building, sometimes one room, sometimes two, normally built of fibro cement.
They stood separated from the hall and, as a child were mystery buildings of no seeming use or importance. These little buildings were the little RSL halls. The meeting places of the returned soldiers. A place of solitude, a place of remembrance, a sacred place, and a place where just the men went.

REPORTS
BUNNINGS SAUSAGE SIZZLE
 from Russell

GREAT NEWS. Bunnings have informed me that the Sausage Sizzles are back on in December.
There will be some changes made to the procedures due to COVID Safe requirements. I will be getting instructions from Bunnings as to what these are over the next few weeks.

Even BETTER NEWS, is that we have been able to get
  • Saturday 19th December - confirmed
  • Sunday   20th December - confirmed
Bunnings have asked us if we would also like to have Thursday 24th December - tentative as there may be regulations restricting the sausage sizzles to weekends only.
Russell has about 20 volunteers, but may need more for Thursday Dec 24 if this eventuates.

Last year the club made over $4,000 on the weekend before Christmas, so having these dates would be a fantastic opportunity for the club to get our fund raising back on track.
Please help if you can and contact him as to your availability.
