September is Basic Education and Literacy Month                                     23 September 2020

Hi everyone ,

Last Wednesday we heard from a successful restauranteur about the consequences of the Covid-19 lockdown.
The economic consequences of the lockdowns and the devastating effects on multiple industries will only become apparent in the coming months. What we do as Rotarians is to remain malleable and adapt to the changes and opportunities and remember Service above Self.

IVAN MILLICH
It was a pleasure to welcome Ivan to last week's meeting. Ivan runs Buccatini, the restaurant at which our club meets. Ivan has hosted us and served up beautiful meals for over 13 years.
We had asked him to speak to us about  how the Covid-19 lockdown was affecting the hospitality industry in general and his own restaurant in particular.

Ivan told us that with Federal and State  Government grants, he had coped reasonably well  at first. His take away business did OK, and with Job Keeper, his staff were able to continue to work for him. They had kept sane and busy by spending much of their time in painting, cleaning and renovating the premises.

Vocational Service Report – September 2020
from John Lynch

I attended the District 9810 Vocational Service Seminar on 27 August. Approximately 40 people attended including District 9800 Vocational Service Chairman and a Career Coach from the Mount Waverley Satellite Club.
Both speakers provided very valuable insight into this second avenue of Rotary Service.

🍔GET A BURGER & SUPPORT NEWGEN🍔
  from Kiel Egging

Vermont's Rise&Grind 3133 cafe is giving back to NewGen following the success of the Coffees For Teachers initiative.
The cafe is generously giving $5 from the sale of every Grinder Burger and chips this month to the club! The burgers are $22 for a beef one or $25 for a vegan version, and both come with fat chips.

Kevin and Kiel got to sample them recently - and left with very full tummies.

If you live within 5km of the cafe, be sure to t
reat yourself, support the cafe and help boost NewGen's coffers at the same time! Rise&Grind 3133 is at 605 Canterbury Rd, Vermont, and is open from 7-2 on weekdays and 8-1 on weekends.

EERN NEEDS YOUR DONATIONS

As we have been distributing stuff for months and not collecting anything much we are pretty keen to get anything.
The more manageable items for the moment are kitchen items. The request is that whilst people are at home , maybe clearing out their cupboards, they might come across some cutlery, crockery, cooking implements and especially glasses that are surplus.
To arrange collection or drop off
call the EERN number 9874 8433
and leave a message.
We will respond as soon as possible.
          Thanks
                          Ian
