Greetings!

The email below is from new Rotary International World President Mark Daniel Maloney.

I urge you to take the time to read Mark’s message – it outlines his vision really clearly.

Thanks

My dear friends, Rotary leaders, and Rotaract leaders:

A new Rotary year is upon us, and let us say one final thank you to former President Barry Rassin for his outstanding leadership. Barry, we will miss you, but we know and appreciate that you will continue to lead Rotary in important ways for years to come.

I have spoken for several months about how Rotary Connects the World, and the time has now arrived to put our words into action. We have an exciting year ahead of us, a year when we begin to implement the new Strategic Plan, what I call the Rotary Action Plan and when we will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter.

That anniversary will underscore the ties we have and goals we share with the United Nations. We will host five special events—UN Day in New York, three presidential conferences in Paris, Santiago, and Rome, and a final celebration just before the Convention in Honolulu. This will help us achieve the first Action Plan goal of increasing our impact by demonstrating that Rotary’s influence in the world has only just begun.

The second Action Plan goal is expanding our reach.  To achieve that, we need to grow Rotary – reaching out to new members, engaging current members, and creating more alternatives for membership for the next generation of Rotarians.

The third goal is enhanced participant engagement, making sure that Rotarians have experiences that are personally and professionally relevant and fulfilling. This is why I believe so strongly in building a more family-friendly Rotary -- one that welcomes children to our activities and that is considerate of families in our scheduling. Let us recommit to putting the needs, expectations, and growth of our participants at the center of all we do.

The final priority of our new Action Plan is increasing our ability to adapt. New approaches to our organizing principles do not threaten our sense of who we are. That is why I believe that Rotary must respect professional commitments and not require Rotary leadership to be a full-time job. We need to respect the time and responsibilities of young people who are building careers.

Together, we will harness the power of connection just as our organization has been doing for more than 114 years. We have a long, proud heritage. And we will continue to thrive because we are not afraid of change.

I look forward to leading you in this important journey, as Rotary Connects the World!

Yours in Rotary,

Mark Daniel Maloney
President, Rotary International 2019-2020

First meeting of the year for the Newgen satellite club

On Sunday 7 July 2019, Judith Eadon, Ian Armstrong and I met with members of the Newgen Satellite Club for their first meeting of the new Rotary year.   Also in attendance were District Governor Shia Smart and District 9810 Membership Chair Malcolm Chiverton.  Newgen was represented by Kiel Egging, Nat Arambasic and almost new member Steve.  Ashwin Mahagaonkar was an apology.

Kiel was officially inducted by DG Shia as President and Nat Arambasic as Vice President – congratulations to you both – you will do a great job.

Our RYLA representative
The  Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) is a unique 6 day residential seminar held all over the world focusing on stimulating, challenging, educating, enhancing and empowering participants in the areas of leadership, personal and professional development and service to the community. Rotary District 9810 RYLA aims to deliver an intensive training program for young people aged 18 to 30 nominated by their local Rotary Club for their community youth leadership potential.

This year the Rotary club of Nunawading is sponsoring Rita, from the Rotaract Club of Whitehorse to attend RYLA.

Rita spoke at last weeks club meeeting.  She said her main personal goals for her during the RYLA program were to learning about servant leadership, and club culture.

She spoke about preparing for the Vice President role of the Rotaract Club next year,  as part of this role in the club she would like to  establish a more formal working relationship with Rotary, being involved in projects, improving communication between the Rotary and Rotaract.

Good luck Rita!  We look forward to seeing you back at our club to report about your experiences at RYLA.

MAKE SAFETY A BUSINESS PRIORITY

PBF’s workplace injury prevention programs are heart felt yet confronting; challenging individuals to consider the lifelong impacts an unsafe work choice can have on one’s future health, and those around them.

Through our speaker’s stories, PBF is able to build greater awareness of the risk of serious injury in Australian workplaces as well as encourage personal responsibility for adopting safe work practices.

Our presentations can be tailored to any business type and are available to large and small groups across Australia.

We recently worked with Jim Stevenson Head of HSEQ at thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions (Australia) Pty Ltd, to deliver a series of presentations focusing on their safety message as part of their We Care Day 2019 program.

Jim was pleased with the powerful message delivered commenting “We’ve received a considerable amount of positive feedback from management and employees alike.  Each session was well received, and the content of each presentation specifically targeted to the audience at each location”.

Katie Stokes, PBF’s WA Business Development Manager, was pleased that we were able to help reinforce thyssenkrupp’s safety message, saying “We have the flexibility to adapt our programs and presentations to match specific organisational requirements.”

PBF’s West Australian and Queensland teams worked together to deliver the presentations in Port Hedland, Perth, Brisbane & Melbourne.

Jim was impressed with the quality of the presentations delivered stating “I can’t speak highly enough of the presenters, Nigel Barley and Paul Carson, who not only travelled around willingly and retold their personal experiences, but immediately engaged with our people on each site to reinforce our safety and welfare ideals.  These people and their everyday stories are so highly relatable. The impact on our employee’s safety behaviours was immediate.”
