Greetings to you all
Hope you had a great week. Firstly some updates and new future dates to save:
Additional Bunnings Sausage sizzle dates
Bunnings Nunawading offered the club additional days prior to Christmas – we have secured Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 December 2019 which is great and thanks to Russell W for following up and securing these dates.
Australian Rotary Health Lift the Lid Day - Thursday 10 October 2019
Australian Rotary Health (ARH) has a nation-wide agreement with Bunnings to support Rotary with fundraising efforts for the Lift The Lid campaign. This event will be our major fundraiser for ARH.
Lift the Lid on Mental Illness is Australian Rotary Health’s National annual fundraising day for mental health research and also coincides with World Mental Health Day.
I am very pleased to advise that Bunnings Nunawading have agreed to support the club in our endeavours to raise money for Lift the Lid – we will be able to sell sausages, tin rattle and sell other products of our choice.
Thursday 3 October 2019 – Newgen Parmas for Polio fundraiser at the Coach in Ringwood – this is in place of our Wednesday meeting. The event is Newgens first official fundraiser for the 2019/2020 year so it would be great if members and partners can attend to support.
Internationals Women’s Day Breakfast Committee – committee member needed
The Rotary Club of Box Hill Central run a very successful International Women’s Day Breakfast event every March. It has evolved into a cluster event so a committee that includes every club in Whitehorse is being formed. The first meeting is on Sunday 28 July 2019 at 6.00pm at the home of their president in Burwood. If someone can nominate to be on this committee and attend the meeting please. If you can attend the meeting but can’t commit to the committee that is fine too - gather details, have input and we can sort out a representative later. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested.
1st Board meeting of the 2019/2020 Rotary Year
This was held on 19 July 2019 after our regular meeting.
The minutes will be circulated to all members after they are accepted as correct at the next board meeting in August. In the meantime, committee reports will be published in the Bulletin so members can see what is occurring across the club. The first 3 reports are below and my thanks to the Chairs for supplying them.
The Garry and Warren Smith Community Raffle
Garry and Warren Smith in association with The Rotary Club of Waverley have been running this community raffle for 5 years. Nunawading have secured tickets to sell in the past couple of years. This year we sold $2,000 of tickets (100 books).
Russell W and I attended an event on Thursday 18 July at Garry and Warren Smith’s headquarters in Oakleigh to collect a cheque for $2000 and to witness presentations of the raffle prizes to the 3 winners.
The raffle will occur again in 2020 and 100,000 tickets will be available for sale.
Rotaract Changeover – 20 July 2019
I attended the Rotaract Changeover at Kew Golf Club on Saturday 20 July 2019 and had the pleasure of witnessing the official charter of the Rotaract Club of Manningham.
This has been 3 years in the making so their members were understandably very excited as were the 4 sponsor clubs – Rotary Clubs of Doncaster, Donvale-Warrandyte, Manningham and Templestowe. Congratulations to all involved.
We are also starting to see Interactors coming through into Rotaract which is great. Rotaract is very keen to work with Rotarians and clubs so we need to ensure we are engaging with and including Rotaract in all that we do.
The new president of the Rotaract Club of Whitehorse is Sarah Power. She will be meeting with the other club presidents on Thursday 25 July at our first cluster presidents meeting.
Committee Reports – July 2019
Please find the first 3 committee reports for the year below. If you have further questions, please direct them to the committee chairs.

We also discussed the need to get back to going to Rotaract on a monthly basis and visiting the New Gen Club.
We also need to address the issues of “Working With Children” Check.
Public Image Sue Warmington
Polos, caps jackets and vest have been distributed and members have been very pleased with their goods.
Badges have been ordered as per the discussion at the last board meeting. Partners’ badges to have Rotary Nunawading on.
Members badges to have the year pin attached (decided to go with the magnetic one rather than drill holes) will see how it goes this year and rethink for next year if it doesn’t work.
Judith and I continue to add to our profile on facebook but would appreciate input from others.

The 2019 Whitehorse Excellence in Business Awards
This year the Rotary Club of Nunawading will be sponsoring the Young Business Leader of the Year Award in the 2019 Whitehorse Excellence in Business Awards.
Our Club will be judging the nominees and will be presenting the Award at the Awards Gala Dinner on Friday 4th October.
Members are asked to support us in two important ways:
- If you know a suitable candidate please invite them to nominate at:https://www.whitehorsebusinessgroup.com.au/business-awards-nomination-form
We at the WBG understand the commitment that it requires in starting a new business of any description It can be risky and difficult, however there are a number of fundamental capabilities that will drastically increase your chance at success.
