A Wonderful Meeting Filled with Inspiration and Purpose.  On Tuesday night, we were honoured to welcome a special guest, Michael Preston, a Rotarian from Norwich St.Edmund in the UK. His presence added an international touch to our meeting and reinforced the spirit of fellowship that the Rotary Club of Boronia is known for.

 

The highlight of the evening was the guest speaker, Anton Hockey, who enlightened us about the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) program. As Anton shared the shocking statistics regarding young drivers, it became evident that this program plays a crucial role in promoting safe driving habits among our youth. The importance of RYDA in reducing accidents and fatalities resonated deeply with all attendees.  I am hoping that we will be able to support this program in a local secondary school in my year.  It will certainly be a topic of discussion when meeting with our local schools.

 

We discussed the District Governor's partners' project. Leanne Byron aims to support the Monash Children's Cancer Centre by raising funds for a special piece of medical equipment. A cause closer to her heart and very worthwhile to improve the lives of young cancer patients and their families.  We will be supporting this cause by donating on behalf of our guests speakers in their name.

 

A reminder that the Wal Goodwin nomination box is back at the front desk.  If you think someone has done something worthy, please write their name and reason and put in the box.  Next May, we will open the box and be reminded of the wonderful things our members have done and will then we will have the opportunity to vote for any member to receive the Walter Goodwin Award 2025, which will be presented at Changeover.

 

Thank you to Ray for stepping up as Seargent.  He has introduced a ‘Happy Double Dollar’, where members can acknowledge another member for something kind they may have done or said.  This way we can recognise members for kind gestures.  This reinforces to our members what a great bunch of people we are, always looking out and taking  care of each other.

 

The meeting left us inspired and motivated to make a difference in our community. The RYDA program and the DG's partners' project are both incredibly worthy causes that we are eager to become involved with. We recognize the power of Rotary to effect positive change, and we are committed to supporting these initiatives wholeheartedly.

 

As we reflect on the wonderful meeting we had on Tuesday night, we are reminded of the core values that Rotary represents: fellowship, service, and making a meaningful impact. We are grateful for the opportunity to come together, learn, and grow as individuals and as a collective force for good.

 

In the spirit of Rotary, let us continue to embrace these opportunities to make a difference and create a brighter future for all.
