WEEKLY BULLETIN VOLUME 1 ISSUE 12 22nd September 2026
September is Basic Education and Literacy Month for Rotary.
This is one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus. We all know how critical reading and writing are for success in life – for gaining information, communicating, making agreements, and so forth.
Enhancing Basic Education skills and Literacy are essential in reducing poverty, improving health, encouraging community and economic development, and promoting peace. Improvements can reduce maternal death, improve childhood survivability, and reduce poverty. They can also enable success in business or a profession.
Projects undertaken by a Rotary Club can address low adult literacy, returning youth to school, enhancing student performance, or supplementing limited school resources.
Consider how your club is, or could showcase "THE MAGIC OF ROTARY by supporting basic education and literacy in your community or somewhere else in the world.
Our meetings are hybrid, with both online and in person attendance options.
6.30PM FOR 7PM START. Please contact our attendance chair on attendance@rotaryboronia.org.au to make a booking.
If you are unable to attend and/or wish to bring additional guests (including for special events or partners nights), please update your response by 5:00pm Monday.
Please note: we must provide Knox Club with final numbers and we are charged for meals even if you do not attend.

Having had a short break in Vietnam, I was impressed at being able to keep up with all the happenings at our Club on social media via Facebook. Thanks to Glenn and the work he has done keeping that flow happening.
A huge thank you to Bernadette PP and Geoff PE for filling in for me as President.
Ther’s been some great guest speakers and events attended by members. The Plonk, Pasta, Puddings and Poetry looked like it was a terrific night and before that the coffee morning had members enjoy a coffee and chat too.
On Friday I met with the team of the Men’s Mental Health Hub to update and recap on the work achieved so far. What an outstanding program that is and will continue well into next year. Unfortunately, we heard from Inga that she will be leaving the program and heading to Queensland with her family in December. She has been a true inspiration along with Felicia and more recently Rylee another fully qualified counsellor (who will be taking over from Inga).
The Skills Sheds wound up the term with a good feed of hamburgers (thank you Marina!) and pizzas at Skills Shed No. 2. They all received a certificate of completion and a tool belt to take home.
This next term we will celebrate the 2 year anniversary of the first Youth Skills Shed. Truly a remarkable achievement with 72 kids going through and becoming Junior Tradies! It’s not possible without the continued support of our Club and the ever-reliable volunteers who attend each week. Thank you!
We have also been successful in receiving some grants. One from Red Energy and another from Knox Council. These will be allocated to the Skills Shed at Boronia K-12 and the Men’s Hub respectfully.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday night.
See ya Round!
A little reminder from the Bread Roll Department…
Each Monday afternoon, we give the Knox Club our final meal numbers, and that is exactly how many bread rolls they order.
So, if you have advised that you’re not having a meal, sadly there won’t be a bread roll with your name on it!
And if we don’t know you’re coming for a meal, we can’t guarantee there’ll be a roll waiting for you either.
Please make sure your meal arrangements are confirmed by Monday afternoon.
We are doing our best to make our meetings run smoothly. Thanks for your co-operation.
Moral of the story: if you want the roll, book the meal! 🍞😄
Over thirty of our members got together for a social night called Plonk, Pasta , Puddings and Poetry
A fun night of laughter and the odd poem.
Thank you to Jan and the social committee for organizing the night and everyone who cooked the delicious food.
Some wonderful renditions of poems were shared throughout the night. Thanks to everyone who shared some famous Australian poets, Irish poet and to Mark for his moving lyrics to songs he had written. My contribution was to recognise the wonderful Boronia Rotary members in verse. Poet Lyn!!!

Congratulations to the first cohort of the Boronia K-12 Rotary
Skills Shed! X
What a fantastic opportunity for students to step outside the traditional classroom and gain practical, hands-on experience while learning valuable trade skills.
A huge well done to all the students involved, and a very special thank you to the many local tradespeople who generously volunteered their time, skills and knowledge to support the program.
Programs like the Rotary Skills Shed are all about giving young people the chance to try something different, build confidence and discover skills and interests they may not otherwise have had the opportunity to explore.
Congratulations to everyone who helped make the first cohort such a success. We can’t wait to see the program continue to grow.
Boronia Probus would like to invite members of the Boronia Rotary Club to join them in celebrating 50 years of Probus.
Couldn't resist a Football piece.
