WEEKLY BULLETIN VOLUME 1 ISSUE 13 29th September 2026
September is Basic Education and Literacy Month for Rotary.
This is one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus. We all know how critical reading and writing are for success in life – for gaining information, communicating, making agreements, and so forth.
Enhancing Basic Education skills and Literacy are essential in reducing poverty, improving health, encouraging community and economic development, and promoting peace. Improvements can reduce maternal death, improve childhood survivability, and reduce poverty. They can also enable success in business or a profession.
Projects undertaken by a Rotary Club can address low adult literacy, returning youth to school, enhancing student performance, or supplementing limited school resources.
Consider how your club is, or could showcase "THE MAGIC OF ROTARY by supporting basic education and literacy in your community or somewhere else in the world.
Our meetings are hybrid, with both online and in person attendance options.
6.30PM FOR 7PM START. Please contact our attendance chair on attendance@rotaryboronia.org.au to make a booking.
If you are unable to attend and/or wish to bring additional guests (including for special events or partners nights), please update your response by 5:00pm Monday.
Please note: we must provide Knox Club with final numbers and we are charged for meals even if you do not attend.

Unfortunately, our guest speaker couldn’t make it as he was unwell. I’m sure we’ll have another opportunity to hear from Jordyn and the work he does in the McKillop Family Services space.
So last week we had the pleasure of hearing from all of the Committee Chairs about progress so far and the plans for the near future. There’s a lot going on in the best Rotary Club going around!
All of the activities, projects and programs that we run as a Club, is only possible by the contribution made from our members so again I thank you all for your contributions in making this Club so successful. We are certainly the bench mark of Clubs in our District and we are often mentioned in different forums about how successful we are.
We had a huge weekend cooking sausages at Bunnings Bayswater, on both days of the long weekend, Friday (public holiday) and Saturday Grand Final day. Thank you to all the volunteers and special thanks to Helena and the fundraising Committee for the work they have done in having all the food and drinks ready for both days. Again, it was a big fundraiser for us and I’m sure Helena will give us the good news about how much we have raised for our projects.
We have also been successful in receiving another grant as mentioned by Monique last week, $1000 for disadvantaged students at Boronia K-12 and also our Club will be sponsoring (with $1000 donation), an Academic Excellence Scholarship which will be called the Boronia Rotary Club Academic Excellence Scholarship.
We had a presentation of the Random Act of Kindness from Val (Chairperson for the night) who stitched up a great act by paying for a lady’s darning stuff which she had to pay for but left her card in the car. When the lady returned, Val had already paid for the items the lady needed. What a terrific Act of Kindness that was! Thank you, Val.
That’s it from me for this week, I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday night.
See ya Round!
A little reminder from the Bread Roll Department…
Each Monday afternoon, we give the Knox Club our final meal numbers, and that is exactly how many bread rolls they order.
So, if you have advised that you’re not having a meal, sadly there won’t be a bread roll with your name on it!
And if we don’t know you’re coming for a meal, we can’t guarantee there’ll be a roll waiting for you either.
Please make sure your meal arrangements are confirmed by Monday afternoon.
We are doing our best to make our meetings run smoothly. Thanks for your co-operation.
Moral of the story: if you want the roll, book the meal! 🍞😄

Our guest speaker had to cancel at the last minute due to illness, so the night became a light hearted club assembly and fellowship night. We congratulated President Ray for his achievements winning the Tilly Aston Lifetime Achievement and community award.
