I know I say it often, but yet again, what a fabulous week
On behalf of the club, I attended the ANZAC Day ceremony at the Tim Neville Arboretum, and words truly donโt do it justice. The event continues to receive an incredible amount of thanks and praise. A special congratulations to Lance and Glen for once again doing an outstanding job.
On Thursday, Ray and I attended the Boronia Kโ12 ANZAC Day service, where we presented The Art of Sacrifice, a book generously gifted to the school by George Petrou OAM. It was a beautiful event, complete with a cannon firing that went off perfectly.
Afterwards, I had the chance to take a look at the Rotary Skills Shed. Thereโs still a bit of work to be done, but itโs coming together really well, and Iโm looking forward to seeing it up and running in Term 3.
And finally, congratulations to everyone on Saturday, we celebrated our 58th anniversary. A great milestone and a great achievement for us all.

Our annual ANZAC Commemoration for the Year 5 and 6 primary school students in our area was held recently, and it was a very special day.
We were proud to welcome around 600 students from 12 local schools, along with their teachers and members of the public, to join us in this important act of remembrance and reflection.
We were honoured to hear from Knox City Mayor Cr Paige Kennett, who welcomed everyone on behalf of Knox Council and shared some of her own family history connected to the two World Wars. Her words were thoughtful and heartfelt.
We also welcomed Jackson Taylor MLA, Member for Bayswater, who spoke on behalf of the State Government and reflected on his familyโs connection to both World Wars, adding another personal and meaningful dimension to the morning.
A highlight of the ceremony was the keynote address from Commander Andrew Fraser RAN (Retd), who spoke about his service in the Royal Australian Navy as a submariner. He also shared the remarkable story of HMAS AE2, the submarine that played such a significant role at Gallipoli during the landing. His presentation was both informative and inspiring.
The tremendous musical support provided by St Josephโs Primary School and St Josephโs Secondary College added greatly to the occasion and helped create a respectful and moving atmosphere throughout the commemoration.
It was wonderful to see how interested the children were in the stories they heard throughout the ceremony. Their attention, curiosity and respect were a reminder of just how important it is to continue sharing these stories with younger generations, so the sacrifices and service of others are never forgotten.
Thank you to everyone involved in making this event the great success it has become each year. A special thank you went to all the schools who attended and supported the ceremony. Their presence helped make the day both meaningful and memorable.

Dear Lance,
I would like to extend our sincere thanks to you and everyone at the Rotary Club of Boronia for hosting todayโs Schoolโs ANZAC service. It was a truly special occasion, and our students gained so much from the experience. The staff and students of Karoo Primary School are very grateful to have been included for the first time this year.
The service provided a valuable opportunity for our students to come together, reflect, and pay their respects. Experiences like this play an important role in helping young people develop a deeper understanding of the significance of ANZAC Day, and the importance of keeping these stories and memories alive for future generations.
The impact on our students was profound. Many were inspired to return to school and write reflections on their experience, which will be shared with the entire student body at assembly on Friday. It was wonderful to see how engaged and genuinely moved they were by the message of the day, and we are confident that its impact will continue to resonate with them.
Thank you again for creating such a respectful and memorable occasion for the school communities of Knox. I have included some photos of our students enjoying and engaging with the day.

The Wal Goodwin Award is an annual award presented at Changeover each year in recognition of an outstanding member of The Rotary Club of Boronia.
Members have had the opportunity to nominate members throughout the year. Names can be put in the box when someone has been recognised as an individual who has gone above and beyond, showing dedication, service above self, positive influence in the Club and recognising their efforts. This person may have done something during a meeting or at an event which was a stand out.
The winner will be presented at Club Changever with a Plaque and a donation of $200 will be made to ARH in their name.
Please think about someone in our Club who you think deserves this recognition. Voting will open soon and every member is eligable.
On Friday 15th May, our Club will once again be holding a stall at the Volunteer for Knox Expo, and we are looking for a few members who may be able to help out during the day.
This is a wonderful opportunity to promote our Club and Rotary, and to share with the wider community some of the amazing things we do. Last year, we had a fantastic day speaking with members of the public, answering questions, and highlighting the many ways Rotary makes a difference. It was also a great chance to connect with other volunteer organisations and see the valuable work being done across our community.
If you have an hour or two to spare, we would love to have your help at the stall. Your support would be greatly appreciated, and it all helps in raising awareness of Rotary and the impact of our Club.

Here are some tips on ways to reuse, recycle and reduce your waste โ
When you purchase fruit and vegetables at the supermarket, instead of putting them in the shop-supplied plastic bags, use your own supply of reusable mesh or cloth bags.
Do you have a worm farm or compost bin at home for your kitchen waste?
Instead of throwing out used jars, lids and cardboard items, save them and donate to your local pre-school.
Reduce or eliminate use of plastic wrap by substituting with silicone or beeswax wraps.
CONTAINER DEPOSIT SCHEME
The Rotary Club of Boronia is registered as a donation partner with the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme. Victoria is divided into 3 zones and of course we sit on the border between two of them, so weโre registered with both the North and East zones. Persons returning containers to any collection point in either zone may nominate us to receive the funds from their donations simply by scanning the attached barcode or entering our Donation Partner ID. All funds contributed will be deposited to our Committee account.
Alternatively, you may bring your empty bottles and cans to our meetings. Environment Chair Annette Griffin will take them to a recycling location to make a deposit on our behalf. You can also bring used batteries to meetings for collection.
