Bernie's Brief

Hi all

Welcome back to Rotary! It was certainly strange having Tuesday off, but I hope you all enjoyed the break and are ready to dive back into our exciting projects.

Last week marked a huge milestone for us as we officially launched one of our biggest projects to date — the Men’s Hub Snack and Chat. A massive congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this vision to life, especially Ray, Peter, Inga, and Felecia, whose efforts made the launch a success. I’m excited to see how this initiative will grow and, more importantly, how it will positively impact the lives of many in our community.

Looking ahead, we’ve got a busy few weeks filled with fantastic events. If you haven’t already confirmed your attendance, please be sure to do so for the following:

  • Coffee Catch-Up – Saturday, 15th November 2025

  • Greg’s Mossop BBQ – Sunday, 16th November 2025

  • Trivia Night – Saturday, 22nd November 2025

The Trivia night will be a great fundraising event, as well as a fun evening. Please remember to bring a gift and/or purchase your tickets for the Trivia Night. I can’t wait to see everyone there!

Thanks for your continued support, and let’s keep up the great momentum as we move through the final stretch of the year!

Yours in Rotary

INTERVIEW WITH PAST ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT

In this episode, District Governor Peter Behm sits down with Past Rotary International President Ian Riseley for an honest and thought-provoking conversation about what truly drives Rotary — and how each of us can tap into that purpose to lead, serve, and make our corner of the world brighter. The interview is wide-ranging as only DG Peter can think up and covers some unexpected topics.
It is a long-form video that takes 35 minutes to watch — but it just might rekindle what first inspired you to become a Rotarian.

CONTAINER DEPOSIT SCHEME

The Rotary Club of Boronia is registered as a donation partner with the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme.
Victoria is divided into 3 zones and of course we sit on the border between two of them, so we’re registered with both the North and East zones. Persons returning containers to any collection point in either zone may nominate us to receive the funds from their donations simply by scanning the attached barcode or entering our Donation Partner ID. All funds contributed will be deposited to our Committee account.

** Remember, you can bring along your empty bottles to our meetings.  Our Environment Chair, Annette Griffin, will take them to a recycling location to make a deposit on our behalf.

This beautiful romantic cottage style garden is set in the Dandenong Ranges against the backdrop of imposing chestnut trees.
One of the owners was a contemporary and fellow horticulturalist of Edna Walling. The planting of silver birches near the entrance pays homage to her work.
During the year various parts of the garden come into their own. In spring roses, rhododendrons and azaleas are the highlight. In summer the herbaceous border is a riot of colour. This autumn opening will feature salvias and other late perennials, intermingled with roses, hydrangeas and sasanqua camellias. Meandering paths lead to a secret garden and rock garden filled with treasures.

DISTRICT NEWS VIDEO

This month’s update highlights a powerful partnership opportunity that could bring Prostate Cancer screening to communities right across our District.

It’s only a few minutes long — but it’s definitely worth watching. In this video, Peter introduces an inspiring initiative led by Greg Mossop from the Rotary Club of Boronia, in partnership with Rule Prostate Cancer and their Prostate Cancer Bus.

Even if Rotary videos aren’t usually your thing, this one’s sure to catch your attention.
