WEEKLY BULLETIN    VOLUME 4   ISSUE 16  15th October 2024

Monique's Message

Wow, I’m back into the swing of things after a refreshing couple of days of relaxation! As we gear up for the busy lead-up to Christmas, there’s so much happening in our Club.

At our last meeting, we had the pleasure of hearing from Steven Lakey from the Bendigo Bank Boronia Branch. Steven shared insights about the bank's involvement in the community, emphasising its significance and how Bendigo Bank stands out as a niche bank that prioritises personalised service. We are proud to bank with Bendigo, who has generously supported our Club not only during our Annual Golf Days but also through a $5,000 grant for our Youth Skills Shed. We are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support.

Looking ahead, our next meeting will feature a presentation from our RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) candidate, Nic. He has fully embraced this opportunity, attending the RYLA weekend where he has formed many new friendships and is even planning to join a Rotaract Club. It’s inspiring to witness the transformation and positive impact the RYLA experience has had on him, and I’m sure the other participants have felt the same way.
I’m thrilled to report that we have received a great response for our upcoming sewing day for Backpacks for Vic Kids! We’ll have the chance to create and sew lots of goodies for children in need. It promises to be a fun and fulfilling day!
A special shoutout goes to Bernadette, who will be attending the Fit For Purpose Seminar this weekend. We look forward to hearing about the insights she gains and how our Club might benefit from the experience.

I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our Club operates smoothly. Countless hours are dedicated to organising events, attendance, scheduling meetings, managing correspondence, publishing newsletters, maintaining IT systems, updating Clubrunner and our website and so much more. Your efforts are what make our Club a success, and I am truly grateful for each of you.

Lastly, on 24th October, we will celebrate World Polio Day. I encourage everyone to wear something RED at our meeting on Tuesday, 22nd October, and bring a gold coin donation to contribute to Polio Plus. More details below.

Here's to an exciting and productive few weeks ahead!

Take Care,

5 REASONS WHY WE MUST ERADICATE POLIO

TO IMPROVE LIVES.
Today, 19 million people who would otherwise be paralyzed by polio are walking, and 1.5 million people who would otherwise have died are alive.

TO INVEST IN THE FUTURE.
If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year. A polio-free world will be a healthier world for children everywhere.

TO IMPROVE CHILD HEALTH.
Polio surveillance networks and vaccination campaigns also monitor children for other health problems, like vitamin deficiency and measles, so we can address them sooner.

TO LOWER HEALTH CARE COSTS.
The global effort to eradicate polio has already saved more than $27 billion in health care costs since 1988, and expects to save $14 billion more by 2050.

TO MAKE HISTORY.
Polio eradication will be one of history’s greatest public health achievements, with polio following smallpox to become only the second human disease eradicated from the world.
