Bernie's Brief

What a wonderful week itโ€™s been. Having time off over Easter gave me the chance to visit some of our projects in person, and it was such a rewarding experience.

I started at the Menโ€™s Hub Snack and Chat, where I saw firsthand the incredible work that takes place each Wednesday. Then on Thursday I spent some time helping the CWA ladiesโ€”which was both productive and very entertaining, especially watching the lively debate over where the tables should go!

I also visited Infolink for their breakfast and was so impressed by the dedication of the volunteers there. Meeting locals and seeing the impact of what we do up close was truly special.

Iโ€™ve always known the work we do is important, but seeing it in action was incredibly humbling. It really brought home just how amazing our team and community are.

Yours in Rotary

NEWS FROM THE ENVIRONMENT TEAM
Here are some tips on ways to reuse, recycle and reduce your waste โ€“
  • When you purchase fruit and vegetables at the supermarket, instead of putting them in the shop-supplied plastic bags, use your own supply of reusable mesh or cloth bags.
  • Do you have a worm farm or compost bin at home for your kitchen waste?
  • Instead of throwing out used jars, lids and cardboard items, save them and donate to your local pre-school.
  • Reduce or eliminate use of plastic wrap by substituting with silicone or beeswax wraps.
CONTAINER DEPOSIT SCHEME

The Rotary Club of Boronia is registered as a donation partner with the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme. Victoria is divided into 3 zones and of course we sit on the border between two of them, so weโ€™re registered with both the North and East zones. Persons returning containers to any collection point in either zone may nominate us to receive the funds from their donations simply by scanning the attached barcode or entering our Donation Partner ID. All funds contributed will be deposited to our Committee account.

Alternatively, you may bring your empty bottles and cans to our meetings.  Environment Chair Annette Griffin will take them to a recycling location to make a deposit on our behalf. You can also bring used batteries to meetings for collection.
