As I reflect on recent events, I am filled with immense pride in being Australian. Witnessing our nation's sports stars clinch gold medals at the Olympics has been exhilarating. It's heartening to see Australia rallying behind our sporting superstars, showcasing our support and admiration for their dedication and achievements.
This week has been particularly eventful and rewarding. We had the honour of hosting Past District Governor Daryl Moran, who delivered an inspiring presentation on youth services. It was wonderful to have the Principal of Boronia K-12 attend this event. Strengthening our relationship with the school is a priority for me this year as President, and this was a significant step towards that goal.
Another highlight for our District this week was the fundraiser for the District Governor's partner's project, the Monash Children’s Cancer Centre. We had a good representation from our Club attend, with around 14 Clubs from our District attending. The event was a tremendous success, raising over $8000. Our Club is proud to support this cause by making a donation on behalf of each speaker at our meetings and have also agreed to purchase10 limited edition TJ Teddy Bears, contributing $40 each. This initiative is close to our hearts, and we are committed to making a difference.
I have been volunteering at the Knox Infolink breakfast program and this has been a fulfilling experience. It brings me joy and a sense of goodwill to contribute to this community service. In response to their request, our board has approved the purchase of six new aprons for the program, further supporting their efforts.
I also had the pleasure of attending the Knox Leisureworks Canvas & Cuppa evening, an initiative supporting mental health through Belgravia Leisure. It was good to have Club representation there. The evening was both fun and mindful, as we were encouraged to paint something that represented our happy place. I chose a beach scene, symbolizing the happiness and calmness I feel when in Bermagui. While I may not be a budding artist, the experience was a wonderful way to unwind and escape the busyness of life. Perhaps this is an activity our Club could consider for the future?
As the weeks fly by, I look forward to the range of engaging speakers we have lined up. Let's embrace the taste of spring weather we are experiencing and continue to take care of each other.
