Bernie's Brief

It is my great pleasure to welcome everyone to our meeting for the final week of March.

We extend a warm welcome back to the Bike Riders. Each year they continue to do a fantastic job raising funds for Australian Rotary Health. This year, they have travelled approximately 578 km and have raised an impressive $33,500 to date, an outstanding achievement and a testament to their dedication and commitment.  Please see below message if you would like to donate.

As we head into the Easter period, I wish everyone a wonderful and relaxing break. May you enjoy special time with family and friends over the Easter holidays. For those who are travelling, please take care and stay safe.

See you Tuesday for a very special meeting.

Yours in Rotary

Dear Rotary Club of Boronia,

On behalf of the Conference Committee, I would like to sincerely thank you for your generous contribution of $500 to the Care Pack Project for City Mission Hobart and City Mission Launceston.

Your support meant so much and was an important part of this very special project at our Combined District Conference. It was wonderful to be able to come together and do something practical and worthwhile while we were all in one place, doing what Rotary does best - supporting the community.
Because of the generosity of donors such as you, we were able to donate and pack care packs that will now reach people doing it tough. We were deeply touched by the letters of thanks we received from City Mission. They shared that every care pack donated and packed creates a ripple of kindness that reaches far beyond the moment it is received. For someone in crisis, receiving something thoughtfully prepared by a person they have never met can be deeply powerful - a reminder that people care, even without knowing their story. These simple acts of compassion can restore dignity, hope and a sense of being seen.

Hobart City Mission also advised that the care bags are being distributed through its Emergency Relief program to help people experiencing homelessness or financial crisis, and that both the personal care bags and financial support were greatly appreciated.

Your contribution helped make this project a meaningful part of the Conference. It gave delegates the opportunity to work together in service, and it was heartening to see that spirit of generosity in action.
Thank you once again for your kindness, support and generosity. Your contribution has made a genuine difference, and your impact continues to touch our community in ways that truly matter.

Warm regards,
Monique Smith

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

What a great way to spend your birthday.
Paul was one of our team for the Mens Hub and then went on to assist with the Youth Shed.

Lyn organised a chocolate party cake and all who attended the Mens Hub sang happy birthday while Paul blew out all the candles.

Happy birthday and Thanks for your efforts Paul.

NEWS FROM THE ENVIRONMENT TEAM
Here are some tips on ways to reuse, recycle and reduce your waste โ€“
  • When you purchase fruit and vegetables at the supermarket, instead of putting them in the shop-supplied plastic bags, use your own supply of reusable mesh or cloth bags.
  • Do you have a worm farm or compost bin at home for your kitchen waste?
  • Instead of throwing out used jars, lids and cardboard items, save them and donate to your local pre-school.
  • Reduce or eliminate use of plastic wrap by substituting with silicone or beeswax wraps.
CONTAINER DEPOSIT SCHEME
imageThe Rotary Club of Boronia is registered as a donation partner with the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme. Victoria is divided into 3 zones and of course we sit on the border between two of them, so weโ€™re registered with both the North and East zones. Persons returning containers to any collection point in either zone may nominate us to receive the funds from their donations simply by scanning the attached barcode or entering our Donation Partner ID. All funds contributed will be deposited to our Committee account.

Alternatively, you may bring your empty bottles and cans to our meetings.  Environment Chair Annette Griffin will take them to a recycling location to make a deposit on our behalf. You can also bring used batteries to meetings for collection.
