What a lovely way to kick off our Rotary year with a picnic at the Quarry Reserve last Tuesday night! The weather was absolutely perfect, and it was heartwarming to see so many of you come out to join us. It was wonderful to catch up with everyone after the Christmas break.
A few adventurous souls ventured down to the lake, only to realise we had to climb back up the hill again! Mark and Peter certainly entertained us all as they sprinted up the steps, showing off their athletic prowess.
Looking ahead, we have so much to look forward to in the coming months! Our main fundraiser for the year, the Annual Charity Golf Day, is on the horizon, with proceeds going to Tamminya House, Anchor Community Care, and Backpacks for Vic Kids. A special thank you to John White and Ken Barrett for their hard work in organising this event. As always, we anticipate a successful day, and I encourage support to them by volunteering or donating prizes for the raffle. More details further in the bulletin.
Additionally, the District 9815 Conference is coming up soon, March 28-30 in Bendigo, and tickets are still available. For our newer members, I highly recommend attending. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn about Rotary and connect with fellow Rotarians who are dedicated to making a difference. The conference promises to be a fun weekend filled with great social interactions. The Conference Team is seeking volunteers for various roles, including the registration desk and behind-the-scenes support. If you're interested in helping, please let me know, and I’ll pass along your interest.
Looking ahead to next Tuesday, January 28th, we will have a Vocational Visit to the Sri Vakrathunda Vinayagar Temple in The Basin. We will enjoy a tour of the temple followed by a delicious vegetarian meal. I’m really looking forward to this evening! If you’d like to bring a partner, please let us know so we can confirm numbers. Let’s meet at the Temple at 6:15 PM for a 6:30 PM start, with the evening concluding around 8:30 PM.
At Changeover each year, we present a member with the Walter Goodwin Award. This is an annual award presented at Changeover each year in recognition of an outstanding member of The Rotary Club of Boronia. Walter Goodwin was a Charter member of our Club who passed away in December 2021. Walter has been recognised as a Rotary Foundation Benefactor having names the Endowment Fund of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International as a beneficiary of his Estate, which will ensure that his legacy will enable Rotary in general, and particularly our Club, to continue its work both in the local and international communities. In his honour, we will conduct a vote for an outstanding member towards the end of May. If you feel a member has been outstanding in any way, you can write their name on a piece of paper with a short description, and place in the box (on the front desk). This box will be opened before voting commences and names will be published as a reminder of the good things’ members have done. Voting is open to any member to receive the award.
