A huge and heartfelt thank you to Peter Malden, Jan Malden, and Helene Kameith for arranging all items needed for the packing of the bags on Saturday.
In true form, everything was packed in just 10–15 minutes with everyone pitching in, and we then enjoyed some lovely afternoon tea (with a little extra taken home by my son Sam!).
The food bags, and any leftovers are heading to Infolink (thanks Monique) and the toiletries bags for Tamminya House (thanks Peter).
As we enter the Christmas period, it’s important to remember the difficulties many people will face this season. The significant rise in supermarket prices, it’s wonderful that we’re able to offer support to those who need it most.
We have plenty happening over the coming month: Knox Rocks is nearing completion, the Men’s Hub continues to run strongly, and Peter has delivered the cards to Infolink so people can access food while the Infolink breakfast programme takes a well-earned break.

ATTENDANCE
Please use Club Runner to manage your attendance. If you are unable to attend and/or wish to bring additional guestsfor a special event or partners night please do so by 5pm Monday night. We need to give Knox Club numbers and pay for meals even if you do not attend.
If you would like something to be included in the website please advise Jim Sly. He is always looking for content and pictures of hard working rotarians is his favourite.
Our final meeting will take place on Tuesday 16th December. This will be a Xmas function on the 'Deck' at the Knox Club. This is a fully enclosed area suitable for all weather conditions. This is a partner night. Bring along a KK present. We need to confirm final numbers no later than Monday 15th December, so it is important for us to know if you can or cannot attend.
Cost $30 - 2 course meal. Please let either Jan Malden or Monique Smith know if you haven't already done so.
This week, our Club was pleased to hand over our Christmas Break Breakfast Vouchers to Penny, Centre Manager at Knox Infolink. These vouchers will be distributed to community members accessing support over the holiday period, helping to ease a little of the financial pressure at this time of the year. Huge thanks to Subway and Burgertory at Boronia Junction for their generous support of this initiative again this year. Their ongoing partnership with our Club makes a real difference in the lives of local families.
Our club recently rolled up our sleeves and got to work, packing toiletry care packs and food hampers for Tamminya House and Knox Infolink.
This project was initiated by our amazing Community Team, led by Peter Malden, and is a wonderful example of Rotary in action – supporting those in our community who need it most.
A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped out on the day – your time, energy and kindness truly make a real difference. We finished off the afternoon with a lovely afternoon tea, sharing stories, laughter and fellowship after a job well done.

DATE AND LEMON SLICE
Australian Women’s Weekly
Base
90g butter
¼ cup castor sugar
2 tspn grated lemon rind
1 egg
1 cup plain flour
2 ½ tbspn cornflour
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, add lemon rind and egg; beat well. Stir in sifted flours. Press into greased, greased paper-lined 18cm x 28cm (7" x 11") lamington tin. Spread topping over evenly. Bake in moderate oven 35 mins. When cold, dust top with icing sugar. Cut into squares.
Topping
2 eggs
pinch salt
1 cup castor sugar
2 tbspn SR flour
1 cup coconut
½ cup finely chopped dates
2 tbspn lemon juice
2 tbspn lemon rind
icing sugar
Beat eggs and salt until thick and creamy. Gradually add sugar, beat until dissolved. Fold in sifted flour, coconut, dates, lemon juice and rind.
Each year at Changeover, one member of our Club is honoured with the Wal Goodwin Award – a special recognition voted on by our entire membership. Every Rotarian in our Club is eligible, and the award is designed to acknowledge someone who has made a significant contribution or done something particularly noteworthy during the year.
To help with this, we keep a Wal Goodwin Award box at the front desk. Throughout the year, you are encouraged to jot down the name of a fellow member you feel is deserving and pop it into the box. When voting time comes around (usually in May), these nominations serve as a helpful reminder of those who have gone above and beyond.
Please keep your eyes and ears open as the year progresses, so we can recognise and celebrate the wonderful efforts of our fellow members.
There are still a couple of gaps to fill. If you, a family member, or a friend has a flair for gift wrapping and would like to help, we’d love to have you involved. 🎀 Please let Monique know so she can add your name to the roster.
A sheet was circulated at our last meeting seeking volunteers for Christmas Gift Wrapping at Westfield Knox. 🎄🎁 This is always a fun day – wrapping shoppers’ gifts in return for a donation to our Club, and a fantastic way to promote Rotary in our community. ⭐
The Rotary Club of Boronia is registered as a donation partner with the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme.
Victoria is divided into 3 zones and of course we sit on the border between two of them, so we’re registered with both the North and East zones. Persons returning containers to any collection point in either zone may nominate us to receive the funds from their donations simply by scanning the attached barcode or entering our Donation Partner ID. All funds contributed will be deposited to our Committee account.
** Remember, you can bring along your empty bottles to our meetings. Our Environment Chair, Annette Griffin, will take them to a recycling location to make a deposit on our behalf.
