It was a wonderful way to start a Sunday with Jan and Peter Malden at Lilydale Lake. It was so nice to catch up and see everyone out and about enjoying the sunshine. Thank you, Jan, for organising such a refreshing morning.
Last Tuesday, while it was disappointing that our guest speaker had to cancel, it gave us a great opportunity to pause and reflect. We took a mini look at our club as part of the Fit for Purpose programme and gathered some fantastic insights into what members would like to see change. Thank you to everyone who shared your thoughts, these ideas will help shape our future direction.
I’m especially excited about the WhatsApp group and how it will help us connect more easily, and I am super excited to explore what our Friends of Rotary will look like. This is a chance for us to grow, engage, and really showcase the heart of our club.
Looking forward to seeing you all this week, let’s keep the energy high and keep building a Rotary that truly inspires.

Peter Conway ( from the Youth Shed ) changed all the light fittings
In the CWA Hall.
The old fittings were well and truely past their use by date
and unable to be repaired so an update was required.
Rotary Boronia purchased the 10 new LED light fittings and all went smoothly
to change them over.
Thank you to Paul, Peter and Peter for donating their time.
We are sure the CWA ladies will be pleased.

CALL OUT FOR HELP
Rescue Logs is looking for Rotary to help a BBQ during Friday 19th September.
They are cutting firewood for the needy and want to feed the people doing the work.
Is there any club interested in helping or a consortium of clubs?
The venue will be Ferny Creek reserve.
Rescue Logs have been working for the past couple of years with The Philanthropic Collective to bring free firewood to single Mums and those in need across the hills to ensure that no one is ever left in the cold winter of the Dandenong Ranges. For many single Mums the rental properties they can afford are those that only have a wood heater and gathering, splitting and running these can be extremely hard for them. We also cater for elderly and have a few people that don’t drive making this whole issue worse. We do our best but as the economy has continued to be bad the need has risen and with our 25 volunteers we have struggled to keep enough firewood up to The Philanthropic Collective. The 19th September will see more than 45 volunteers working together to do a massive amount of green firewood, allowing us to drop off directly to those in need across the day and the following weekend. We will support more than 10 families in need setting them up with firewood for next year. We are hoping this takes the pressure off a bit and allows us to get ahead of next winter.
We would love Rotary to cater for lunch at this event.

The Rotary Club of Boronia is registered as a donation partner with the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme.
Victoria is divided into 3 zones and of course we sit on the border between two of them, so we’re registered with both the North and East zones. Persons returning containers to any collection point in either zone may nominate us to receive the funds from their donations simply by scanning the attached barcode or entering our Donation Partner ID. All funds contributed will be deposited to our Committee account.
** Remember, you can bring along your empty bottles to our meetings. Our Environment Chair, Annette Griffin, will take them to a recycling location to make a deposit on our behalf.

Welcome to the 2026 District Conference in Hobart, Tasmania!
I am thrilled to invite you to join us from March 13th to 15th, 2026, for an extraordinary event that promises to be both enriching and enjoyable. This year, we are excited to announce that the conference will be a collaborative effort with District 9830, representing Tasmania. Together, we aim to create an unforgettable experience filled with learning, networking, and cultural immersion.
Hobart, with its rich history and vibrant atmosphere, provides the perfect backdrop for our conference activities. On Friday, attendees can indulge in a variety of unique experiences, including storytelling at MACq 01, welcome drinks at the iconic Henry Jones, delightful lunch options paired with gin tasting, and exclusive whiskey tasting at the renowned Lark Distillery. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, we will also host golf and bowling events, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

500-550g (about 3) Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, cut into 8 wedges, then cut into 1/2 cm thick slices
2 tbsp grand marnier, or other orange liqueur
1 1/4 cups plain flour
1 cup caster sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup canola oil
1 cup full cream milk
2 large eggs
2 tsp orange zest
2 tbsp extra plain flour
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 large egg yolks
1 tbsp extra caster sugar
1 tsp icing sugar, sifted
1 cup thickened cream
1 tbsp icing sugar, sifted
Method
Step 1
Position a rack in the centre of the oven and preheat to 180°C or 160°C fan-forced. Grease a 23cm springform pan with the butter.
Step 2
In a medium bowl, toss the apples with Grand Marnier to coat, and set aside.
Step 3
In another medium bowl, whisk together the flour, caster sugar, baking powder, saltand 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. In a large bowl, whisk together oil, milk, whole eggs, orange zest and vanilla to blend. Whisk dry ingredients into the wet ingredients to form a smooth batter. Be careful not to over-mix.
Step 4
Transfer 1 cup of the batter to a small bowl and mix in the extra flour; set aside. Whisk egg yolks into remaining batter in the large bowl just to blend. Stir in the apples. Transfer the apple batter to prepared pan and, using a crank-handled spatula, spread batter into an even layer and press the apples in to submerge them. Pour the reserved batter evenly over the apple batter. In a small bowl, whisk the extra caster sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon to blend, and then sprinkle it evenly over the batter.
Step 5
Bake for 50 mins, or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean and the top is golden brown. Transfer the pan to a wire rack and cool for 15 mins. Run a knife around the sides of the cake and release the pan sides. Cool cake for about 30 mins to serve warm, or cool completely. Dust with icing sugar.
Step 6
In a medium bowl, whisk 1 cup thickened cream and 1 tbsp icing sugar, sifted until thick. Dust the cake with 1 tsp icing sugar, sifted. Cut cake into wedges and serve with a generous dollop of whipped cream.
