Rotary is not a series of spectacular meetings. It has developed into a philosophy of life, the world is requiring of each Rotarian a living example of Rotary's teachings. Too much emphasis cannot be laid upon the individual responsibility of each member to be a Rotarian in heart and in spirit, and to exemplify its teachings in his or her daily living. This thought has motivated the basis for this year's Motto:
Be Rotary with your heart and with your soul.

This motto I also interpret to let us pause and take an inventory of ourselves and of our club and see to what extent we have made Rotary a guiding influence and a living force in our lives and in our business or professional careers. Rotary must never find itself bankrupt with an overstock of words and raw material without sufficient motive power and leadership to turn out finished products.
Rotary, after all, is a very simple matter, although its ideals are high. Our works must be such as we put Rotary ideals in practical operation, together with the fellowship and friendship being a Rotarian brings with it.
This is best achieved by a close, spirited and fun cooperation of all members with the officers to bring our donations from "dead money" to life with a measurable effect on the lives of those we are allowed to serve. It requires the talent and live involvement of the whole club in our projects, hands-on and also in giving by doing and I am delighted to see such encouraging levels of participation. You have graciously made me your standard bearer for the year, so let us always keep our focus on the fact that it is your standard and that in following you truly fulfill its mission.
My team and I are there for our club with a commitment to serve and also to make it exciting, fun and proud for everyone to be Rotary with your heart and with your soul!
