Club Assembly/ Business Meeting - 26th February 2020
Club Assembly / Business Meeting – Wednesday 26th February 2020

Last week the Rotary Club of Mornington conducted its Club Business/Assembly for the discussion and ratification of a number of new and exciting projects our club will be involved with over the next coming months.

Prior to the presentation of the items to be discussed there were a small but important number of General Business items announced, by our President Ross Kilborn, that being:

1.     A special welcome to Ari DeWit whose guest was Ian Hamilton, from the Mornington Mens Shed. For those of you who reflect back to our Art Show , Ian along with many of his fellow Mens Shed  companions spent many, many hours providing very much needed hours of valuable "hands on " during the set up phase.

2.      Please don't forget ( if your available ) to keep Saturday 14th March free for another important Fundraiser that being one of Bunning's BBQ. David Lancashire will very shortly be seeking " many hands cook a great sausage " volunteers;

2.     Peter Jay (our tragic Saints supporter) has once again " volunteered " to manage the AFL 2020 Rotary Club of Mornington - Australian Rules Football Tipping Competition. This was a great success last year with some 30 contestants. Peter, in the next few weeks will be sending out information, rules etc for the Tipping Comp.

3.     Our Social  Member, Eileen, proposed a social activity that she has planned for Sunday 29th March , that being a family picnic & ride on our own Mornington Steam Train.  The proposal was meet by a very, very positive response. So please keep (if you are available) this day in your diary and also please see if ' the whole family " can make a day of it, children (even the grown up ones) Grandkids and even Great Grandkids, we plan to make this a great family day

4.   Another important up coming event , which is still in the planning phase but well underway with only a few details to finalise, is the " Welcome Back to Mornington Rotary".  This should be one of our prime events on our calendar this year, which hopefully will see a large gathering of current and in particular past and honoured members of the Mornington Rotary Club. The date has been earmarked for Wednesday 29th April 2020 , and will most likely be held at our Clubs usual gathering location being the Mornington Hotel . Within the next few weeks there will be a formal invitation outlying date , time  and costing sent out to all our members. Don't miss out on this very special event, and make sure you put this into your social diary !!!

After our evening meal we were then down to Club Business. All specific matters of discussion and recommendation was promulgated by our Club secretary, Ian Horton, last week ( 28th Feb 2020) via an e-mail to all Club Members.   Our presidents report, as shown below, provides an overview of some of the major relevant projects.

President's Update
Coming Up this week

This week’s Guest Speaker is Paul Nicol, one of Australia’s top financial advisers. If you have an interest in Australia’s financial outlook, this should be a great night. If your partner, a friend or family is interested they are very welcome, but please let Eileen know ASAP as the room size restricts us to 40.

The following week we have Kristy Kendall, Principal of Toorak College, who is also likely to be of great interest to partners, friends and family.

Last Week’s meeting

It was an important meeting where we agreed four major local projects are worth pursuing, but all are subject to final member approval before proceeding.
  1. Bushfire Relief – we will round up the $9k from the Silent Auction to $10k and research Mornington CFA as our preferred recipient. Anyone who would like to join me for that conversation …you are very welcome. Please contact me.
2.  The Roof on the Long Table – we are still trying to get an estimate of the cost based on a simpler    design and have received a council grant of $5k.

3. The Homeless Bedding and Trailer project – hopefully we will have more on this, this week, but we are guessing $10k for the trailer and moveable bedding. We hope to get a District Grant for some of this. It’s to be managed by the Mornington Community Information & support Centre.

4.  Gateway Park as the Eastern Link. We allocated funds for this beautification project this year and again next, plus potentially funds to go to a Centenary gazebo.

More details on these were in the paper circulated to members last week.

We also greed on the following smaller projects, with funds to contribute towards the following:
  1. A Sky Hydrant, as displayed at the Art Show, which by the way, creates the opportunity for a member to travel with it to Bhutan.
  2. Contribution to Sailability for a Lift at the Yacht Club -
  3.  End Trachoma
     4.   Another Indigenous Health Scholarship
     5.   Polio Plus
     6.  Australian Rotary Health, for mental health. We have already remitted $1k from Lift the Lid
      7.  Youth Projects – across the various programs this year, but we agreed we would be unlikely to  host or send a Youth Exchange candidate next year.
      8. The Primary School Student support program

Succession Plan

On the subject of succession planning, firstly congratulations to Brian Mann, who is next year’s President elect. Thank you too, to the Committee Chairs who are all continuing (except the Art Show), and all the members who nominated to join one of our Committees for next year.  The Board’s desire is to have every member on a Committee and have a Deputy Chair for each Committee. More on this over the next few week’s as this is an important matter for the Club.

Regards

Ross
