The last Bulletin for this Year - June 29 2020
This week – July 1 we have a Board Meeting at 6pm on Zoom via this link (members are always welcome to sit in)
Meeting ID: 927 056 436 Password: 294331
The following week – July 8 Judy Seager is going to present, via Zoom, her biography, an insight into her interest in Aboriginal Communities and Report on the District 9820 Avenues of Service she attended last week.
Then on July 15 we are aiming for a social dinner at the Mornington Hotel, in the Bistro. We discussed this at last week’s meeting. The Mornington Hotel is allowing bookings of up to 20 in the Bistro. So we have booked for 20 on July 15th, for the second sitting 6.30-7.45pm. It’s all based on seated table service of the normal Bistro menu and required distancing. We need to confirm we have 20 the week prior so please advise Eileen if you will be attending, and if your partner is interested in also attending (in case we do not get the full 20 Rotarians we will include the first partners registered). It’s on a strictly first in basis. There will not be any club business, it’s a social catch up.
Last week our main meeting business was a discussion about our significant new project options, led by Victor and his working group. The large amount of work that has gone into this was acknowledged. There’s a range of options that have been identified as warranting further investigation. They are
- Construction of a bathroom at the Fusion accommodation building. This would be an immediate project with the potential to develop into a longer term project to provide some independent living units on site.
- The beautification of Gateway Park, as previously discussed, which could develop into a project to do the whole Eastern Green Link through to the beach.
- The move of the heritage Donnybrook Railway station to Mornington with the Railway Preservation Society. This is a major project and could be linked to the overall Bay Trail project.
We have been invited to participate in Fusion’s “Sleep in Your Car” on Saturday August 1. It’s Fusion’s major Fundraising event and normally held in Mornington Park but this year you can do it in your driveway, garage etc. or even on your couch. Over the next two weekends District 9820 is running its training sessions on-line in the Rotary Avenues of Service. They are well worth viewing if you are interested in any of these topics

Youth Exchange. I have just received from District 9820 a compilation of all the exchange students the District has been involved with over the last 60 years, since the International Program commenced. Of over 3000, with 33 countries, Mornington has been involved with over 40, our most recent of course being Freya, and Andreas. Well done to Daryl Chambers (Fran’s husband) for putting this together!
In Rotary news from outside our club you may be aware that Rotary International has added a new Avenue of Service – the Environment, to the existing Avenues of Service, Club, Vocational, Community. International, and Youth. I think this is relevant to us as we recognise some of our past projects and activities and contemplate our new ones.
Finally, as of Wednesday, July 1, Brian is our official President elect – Congratulations. We will still be having an official Changeover Dinner, as soon as we can. We know some clubs are doing this via Zoom but we think it’s more about celebration than Zoom allows.
Regards
Ross
