From the Editor's Desk. Good afternoon to all my fellow Mornington Rotarians & Partner's. Saturday of this weekend has once again been the day our Club has commenced the very labour intensive task of "kicking of " our Annual Art Show, with two very long and full days of setting up. This year's Art Show Set Up was very much one that was out of the ordinary in which we were confronted with a "whole new set of plans to work thru and resolve on the spot", being the first Art Show we have conducted in the very new Mornington Community House and adjacent Mornington Studio. Under the guidance of young Peter Jay with his trusty side kick in Ted Moore and a team of helpers from far and wide and the ever reliable crew from The Mornington Mens Shed we all combined to overcome the four rooms and corridors of our new home to have all screens in place over the weekend. On Sunday from early morning to late into the afternoon the continuous flow of some 750 pieces of high quality Art Work was received and to that end the team within the reception, acceptance and cataloguing locations were on hand to ensure all Art Work was accounted for in a very professional manner. Monday saw another team of willing volunteers under the guidance of Maree and Barbara undertake the precise procedure of ensuring all pieces of Art Work are displayed and positioned to attain max viewing advantage. From now until our Gala Opening night, this coming Thursday evening, there will be a host of daily tasks involving the checking of every piece of Art work to ensure that every painting precisely matches the catalogues and brochures, and once again a small team of very dedicated & specialised volunteers will cast their eye over the entire gallery for that all important final vetting process. Rome certainly wasn't built in a day and a wise old General once said an Army Marches on its Stomach, and a big thanks to our Catering Manger, Eileen P, for keeping the victuals up to the hungry hoards with a very well presented and tasty morning tea. .. . . . As the adage goes "many hands make light work" and here a few pics of our Art Show Set Up & Art Hanging over the past three days . Up Coming Club Weekly Meeting/s With the 2022 Mornington Art Show well and truly underway, within the set-up phase that is, we will see no formal Club Meetings on the next two Wednesday evenings. Club Meetings will once again resume back to The Mornington Hotel on Wednesday evening at 6:00pm on the 02nd Feb 2022. This meeting will be pertaining to current Club Membership and attracting potential New Members. Weekly Club Meetings - Attendance & ApologiesAs presented at last weeks Club Meeting, this coming year will see a return to a few non taxing and non time consuming tasks for our regular weekly Meetings. Commencing as of Wednesday 02 Feb 2022 it has been re-instigated that at each meeting a member will be ' rostered on duty' so to say , to welcome fellow Rotarians, Partners and Guests, collect the evenings dues (for meals etc) formulate the Menu Selection and Attendance register and present the Meal Selections to the Chef. This brief duty is a great way in which we can all connect and ensure we contribute in a small but important element of our Club Meetings. The Welcome Desk Duty Member will be required to be present at The Stratton Room, a bit earlier for each meeting at about 5;45 pm and be able to undertake the duty for two consecutive Club Meetings. Our Club Social Director, Pam Hall, will be the point of contact for this roster and when you are in a position to elect yourself for the Welcome Desk tasking/s please give Pam a call or SMS, and also as an adjunct to the Weekly Meetings if you are an apology or better still if you are able to bring along a guest please contact Pam, a few days in advance so we can ensure that everyone has a seat for the evening. Pam can be contacted on e-mail at: pamelahall4@outlook.com or via Mob Ph on 0448 998 733, thanks. A Very Worthwhile Cause From time to time a very important and worthwhile charity cause, which may not be of a Rotary initiative, comes "across our desk ", and this particular one is of special note. As presented at last weeks meeting, The Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation are conducting a Walk with Women on Sunday 6th Feb 2022 on the Mornington Peninsula are seeking assistance for Volunteers either all day, or for a morning or for an afternoon shift to assist in a number of logistic support tasks. If you are available it would be great and you can contact Georgie Herbert at georgie.herbert@ocrf.au or via Mob Ph on 0407 326603, thanks. Birthdays January within our Club has seen a few Birthdays come around, and on behalf of the President, The Board all our Members and Partners we wish to acknowledge and wish a very Happy Birthday to Marylin Walkley, Leigh Power and Victor Sullivan, well done and we wish you all many more to come. Presidents Report - 17th Jan 2022 Good evening to all, RYLA 2022 Postponement It is with much regret that we are informing you of a decision to postpone the joint District 9810 and 9820 2022 RYLA, which was to be held in the week of Mon 17 to Sat 22 January. This decision is made reluctantly and after much discussion including an urgent meeting between DG Bill Degnan (9820) and DG Daryl Moran (9810), RYLA executive and the Leadership team. Due to the rapidly changing COVID circumstances, the health and safety of our team, participants, speakers, and wider Rotary family is our paramount concern. An alternate time is to be arranged as soon as possible and we are looking to present some sessions online in anticipation of an in-person RYLA |
Funding Application – Letter of Support A formal Letter of Support was recently formulated and presented, by Ross Kilborn, on behalf of the eight Rotary Clubs across the Mornington Peninsula, to support the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council’s application to the Regional Tourism and Infrastructure Fund (RTIF), for funding of the Mornington to Moorooduc, and Whitecliffs sections of the Peninsula Trail. This is another small but very significant part of the “ big picture’ to see the Peninsula Trail progress with the all important financial support such a major project requires to advance. Well-done Ross on behalf of our Peninsula Rotary Cluster Clubs. Possible Upcoming Bunning’s B-B-Q Once again we have been afforded the opportunity to undertake another worth while fund raising activity with a Bunning’s BBQ proposed to be conducted on Saturday 5th Feb 2022. This date and the availibity of volunteers will be sought by our Club BBQ Team leader David L, ASAP, so if you are available please keep this date in mind, as we will require x 4 persons per shift for three shifts throughout the day.
