From the Editor's Desk

Good afternoon to my fellow Mornington Rotary Colleagues and their partners. What an amazing and very eventful few days we have had, one to enter in your diaries as very, very noteworthy and in many years time to look back and reflect. Of course the main item of news this past week was that very violent storm we all " went thru" and in ringing around to quite a few of our club members it was a relief to hear that we didn't have any incidents of personal injury but there was a lot of reports of assets damage and for the Hortons I believe that they are still online with power albeit a small transistor radio !!! You gotta love 100yr old Radiata Pine Trees !!. But don't let a good storm get in the way of coming out of Lockdown, as my source at the Big Green & Red Hardware shed informed me, even with a gale of such force, yes we still had people lined up 30 min before official opening back up time, waiting in the queue for the doors to open, you just can't stop some people. I did a quick check on the BOM site to find out on the Cyclone Wind Strength Scale from 1 to 5, the Peninsula was rated as category 2 , now thats impressive and somewhat scary.

Club Meetings- Last Week - PAC

Last week at our Club Meeting we welcomed Mr Jack Vivers, the current President of the Peninsula Aero Club (PAC) from our local Tyabb Airport. Jack spoke of the history of the Airport, whereby a small parcel of land back in 1961 was purchased to establish the airport, to the vast array of Professional Flying Services that PAC have on offer and also the very important and vital role that they play and generously contribute to the local community in and around the Mornington Peninsula. Jacls presentation was so interesting and some very important items of note were: the vital life saving capability that Tyabb Airport have with the Helicopter Air Ambulance, allowing fast and efficient delivery of critically injured patients in under 15 minutes into Melbourne's major hospitals, the vast array of flying training courses on offer from Recreational Pilots Licence, to Private and also onto Commercial Pilots Licences. The Airport (PAC) also work in close collaboration with the ADF and also the Air Arm of VICPOL. PAC also hosts the Bi-annual Tyabb Air Show that brings in aviation enthusiast from all over Victoria and Interstate and the Airport pride's itself on the amazing fleet of vintage aircraft contained within its hangers. Jack informed us that the have a few aircraft of which there are only one or tow worldwide, not just sitting as a Museum display, but are actually still very much operational. The Air Show is a feature event within the Aviation Industry and the funds raised from this event go onto providing funds for some very, very worthwhile charities, just to mention one that being The Make a Wish Foundation. Today PAC has some 600 active members, the Airport see's 18,000 air movements each year and donates a staggering $60,000.00 ( from its Air show) to charitable organisations. In all a very enlightening and enjoyable presentation. This article is only a very brief snapshot of the very big picture that PAC conduct at the Tyabb Airport and it is very worthwhile having a look over their very impressive and in formative interactive Web page Peninsula Aero Club – An aero club for aviation enthusiastshttps://pac.asn.au.   The Rotary Club of Mornington wish to extend a big thanks to Jack for his very informative and enlightening presentation, well done

Upcoming Club Meeting: Wed 03rd Nov 21
Unfortunately as a result of Friday's huge storm (I suspect a very big clean up & repair workload on the cards) our Guest Speaker, from Parks VIC, on the Mornington Peninsula will not be able to come along to our Club Meeting this coming Wednesday evening, there was talk of having an informal meeting " in the park", but the weather forecast is not looking to good, so, as we look forward to what should be our last ZOOM Meeting, a planned brief Social online Meeting this week. Just a quick chat with " what have you been up to now we are out of lockdown ", or what might you be up to this Christmas with the Kids and Grandchildren and have you planned that overseas holiday yet !!, so this Wednesday if you are available, log-on and we can all come together, one last time on the big screen.

Club Meeting via ZOOM : Meeting ID 875 3288 2602  & Passcode 560311

Club Website / Bulletin & General IT Training
Some time ago, far far away in distant Galaxy, pre COVID, our past President, Ross, sent out an invitation to all Club Members offering the opportunity to have an insight into how our Clubs Wepage and our Clubs Bulletin were managed.  It was great to see a small number of members who showed an interest and commenced some very informal and social type training. With our ability to now meet with more guests in a social setting our current Club President, Brian, is availing any club members who wish to have an insight into how our Webpage, Bulletin and for that matter some general IT etc, are managed and compiled and maintained. So if you are interested please utilise this opputuinity. It is planned that the session/s are interesting and informative and with some liquid refreshments available a relaxed " learning environment " is on offer.

Presidents Report - 01st Nov 21
Good afternoon to all,

Return to Regular Club Meeting’s
As announced at last weeks Club Meeting I am looking forward to catching up next week, on Wednesday 10th Nov 21. Also as an adjunct to our return to face to face meeting, as a VIC State Government requirement, if all members are able to send thru, to our Club Secretary Ian Horton, your COVID Immunisation Verification this would be greatly appreciated.

Recent Storm
With the very “ wild and woolley “ weather we all experienced this past Friday, I hope that you, your partner and extended family escaped any personal danger and also your property and belongings were not adversely affected. I do know that the Horton’s are still tuning into the battery operated Portable Radio for some time yet, and if anyone else is need of assistance please call out and I’m sure your fellow Club Members will be able to assist

Christmas Children’s Train Ride
As we very rapidly approach this coming Festive Season its always very piongnet to take time to stop and reflect those in our community who are not so financially able to provide for their families with the type of Christmas cheer and joy that most of us partake in. To this end it is great to see all the excellent effort that Ross K and Jo D have gone to over the past few weeks in planning the Santa Train Ride. This event is shaping up to be an annual joint Rotary Club event between our Club and Mt Eliza and we also have Stuart from the Mornington Community Centre on board. This is another great example of the ability of Rotary Peninsula Cluster to provide the local communities with a special treat in being able to put a smile on the faces of our younger generation.
The event is scheduled for Saturday 04th Dec 21, and Jo D has taken the lead with this Christmas Project, and I’m sure we will be hearing the specific details of the Santa Train Ride in the next few weeks. So if you are available on the Saturday, please “ pencil in this date’ as there will defiantly be a request for volunteers to assist on the day.
Thanks Jo, well done very much appreciated and “ full steam ahead”.

Bunning’s BBQ
As I paid a visit to our local Bunning’s BBQ this weekend it was great to get a whiff of that old favourite of the aroma of grilled sausages and onions. As detailed in this weeks bulletin we now have a full crew ready, willing and able to ‘ throw a snag on the barbie”, next Sunday, thanks to those who were able to assist, well done.

District ZOOM Meeting - All Rotary Club’s COVID Requirements
Last week I received this communicate from our 9820 District Learning and Development/ Governance Office, Tim Moore, and passed the details onto our all Club’s Board Members recommending that they log-on and join in for what should be an informative meeting, but I also felt that if any members within our club would like to register it would be great to have you join in the meeting. Please find , below the e-mail from our PDG Tim Moore
D9820 Learning and Development/Governance

Attention:  Club Presidents, Club Secretaries/Public officers, Club Protection Officers and interested persons.
REMINDER

Thank you to all who have registered for this webinar so far.

As a service to Clubs, office holders and interested members, we would like to introduce you to the second in a series of Zoom Meetings that highlight topics that are crucial to Club operations, compliance, and responsibilities.
This will be held on Thursday 4th November 2021 at 7.30pm.
Obviously, with Covid lock downs easing and clubs becoming more involved in the community the Victorian Chief Health Officer has made it clear that all organisations now have a higher level of record keeping and enforcement under the Victorian legislation.
This has implications for clubs as incorporated bodies.
This session will involve key brief presentations from a panel, then an opportunity for discussions about the important implications for Clubs to be aware including vaccination requirements for volunteer workers.
We welcome you to join us in this important discussion.   Apologies to those that cannot attend but this session will be recorded, and a link shared to all registrants.

Please use this link to register your interest and attendance:

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Regards

Brian
