Last Week – thanks to both Mardi Shepherd and our Guest Speaker – Perri Curtis – "Your Brain Is Running Your Life"

About 30 years ago Perri came from the USA to Australia on a Rotary University Fellowship. She is now a psychologist / neuroscientist/ clinical hypnotherapist based at Sanctuary Wellbeing  in Mt.Eliza. (www.wellbeingsanctuary.com.au ).
What an engaging and interesting presentation. And yes our brain can be trained when it is thrown off track by factors such as stress or anxiety. The front of  our brain (fob) manages the emotional issues such as depression and grief and the back of our brain  (bob) is responsible for physical responses - flight and fright.
Neural maps support this brain training through mapping how we feel, think, behave and function.
But it is more than just talking about it as psychologists practice; clinical hypnotherapy can help reset the brain. A neuron in our brain connects with 10,000 other neurons every second - so it is fast, and enables changes in our sub conscious.
Some simple tips to take out  of Perri's presentation - manage your exposure e.g. avoid negativity, establish a routine, especially around sleep  and laugh, smile, and sing  !
An interesting question answered was in regard to an apparent increase in ADHD, attributed to less stable emotional circumstances, and exposure to high activity levels including digital devices.

Mardi Shepherd, as District 9820 Chair of Australian Rotary Health attended to present a Companion Award from ARH. I will also circulate a separate email to members about ARH. Mardi was accompanied by her husband John, President of Langwarrin Rotary Club.

It was good to see Marilyn and Jeff Walkley and John Hall too.

We are all sorry to hear that Dennis had an accident on Wednesday and I will update you as I hear more.

As a member of Langwarrin Club Mardi also alerted us to two events that the RC of Langwarrin is holding.
  1. Next Tuesday Night May 17  - “1 in 5 000” a presentation, about this  foundation that helps children with colorectal and urological condition, 6.45 for 7pm start. Both will be held at Langwarrin Community Centre, Craig Room, 2 Lang Road, Langwarrin.
  2. The second is a meat tasting event on Tuesday 8th June. For 60 people, the club receives $1 000, there’s no cost to the participants. This will be held in 3 sittings, possibly 6pm, 6.45pm and 7.30pm or similar.
A reminder too that the Bays Hospital was holding a Forum on “Healthy Joints” on Thursday night. I hope someone was able to make it. Their new CEO, Jade Phelan and Fundraising Manager Rebecca Hassler will be joining us at our May 26 meeting.

District Assembly Sunday 23rd May  This is the main Education and Information and Education activity conducted by the District each year. You should have received an email from District about it. It is being conducted on line. The first part can be done at any time, the second on Youth Protection and Insurance is on the Saturday, and on Sunday is the  Main Plenary and then sessions for the  President Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and then sessions for each Rotary Avenues of Service.  Topic Information and registration at https://rotary9820.org.au/sitepage/district-assembly-2021/.
I do recommend the Sunday to anyone who wants to understand more about Rotary.

Peninsula Voice’s next Forum “Is gambling harm your blindspot?” Thursday, 20 May 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Peninsula Community Theatre, 91 Wilsons Road, Mornington. Details at https://peninsulavoice.org.au/

Mt.Eliza Rotary is celebrating 50 years on Tuesday May 25th, at the Ranelagh Club.

On an important note; Late last week one of our members had an altercation, whilst on out on a quiet stroll, with a few Bike Riders. From all of us here at the Rotary Club of Mornington we wish young Dennis a speedy recovery. He received a number of injuries and his Shoulder has come off the worst with some more testing/ X Rays , etc to determine the exact nature of the damage. Dennis and his lovely wife Betty are in good hands with his son's racing to help and take care of him. Get well soon Dennis and we hope to see you up and about soon.

Finally the Mornington Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Cancer Council Morning Tea on Tuesday the 25th of May that some members may want to attend.

I wish those of you attending the Fusion Dinner on Saturday night a great time. Good on you for supporting it.

I won’t be at this week’s Chinese night  – so you see you next week.

Regards

Ross
