Bulletin Dec 04 - Vol 77 , Issue No 12
Greetings to Mornington Rotary Club Members and Friends!

'Tis the season to be jolly ........ and to share the joy with others, as many Mt Eliza and Mornington Rotarians did on a wet Saturday morning.

President’s Report

On Saturday, Mornington and Mount Eliza Rotary Clubs combined to help run the Annual Train Ride from Moorooduc to Mornington.

Presents, chocolates and ice-creams are provided to the children of families identified by the Mornington Community Support Centre who would otherwise not have such a joyous Christmas.
Great thanks go to Santa who managed to keep the rain at bay as the train rolled into the station at Moorooduc, just in time for the BBQ and presents.

Preparations are now well underway for the 52nd annual Mornington Rotary Art Show.  This is our most significant fundraiser for the year.  I want to acknowledge our sponsors, members and volunteers without whose help, we could not run the Art Show.   Please put 18 January 2023 Opening Night in your diary – more details in this bulletin.

This Wednesday we welcome Stephen Todd from Voltfarmer as our guest speaker.  He will be speaking about locally produced renewable energy here on the Mornington Peninsula.  A session not to be missed.

Finally, I want to wish you all a happy and peaceful time over the coming holiday season.

Save Beleura Cliff Path!
At our most recent meeting Rotary Club members were fortunate to receive a presentation by local resident, Peter Nicholson, spokesperson for Friends of Beleura Cliff Path. Peter outlined the history, and present sad status, of the iconic Beleura Cliff Path.

This historic path, cut with pick and shovel between 1916 and 1923, is famous for its beautiful views of the harbour, cliffs, rocks and sea.  According to Peter’s account it all started over one hundred years ago with the owners of cliff-top properties wanting access to the beach. A number of other local citizens and some from even further afield found they also wished to use the path to access Mills Beach from Beleura.

The path was formed across private land and crown land but public right-of-way was ensured. However, the path was closed on a few occasions in recent years after landslips and has now been determined by Council to be unsafe in its present state and has padlocked gates and security fencing at either end. An amenity, which has been available more than a century, is no longer there, and there seems little prospect that it will be available any time soon.

The Friends Group urges everyone to attend a public meeting at 5pm on Monday, December 11 at the Mornington Yacht Club to hear about a recent geo-tech report on the condition of the path that was commissioned by our Mornpen Council. This will be an opportunity to show the depth of feeling within the community towards restoring the path.
