From The Editor Good afternoon to all my fellow Mornington Rotary Members and Partner's, well Spring is in the air, we are in the midst of the 202 AFL Final Series, (Go Piesđ) a number of our Club Members are slowly returning from extended holidays to the sunny Mornington Peninsula and on Sunday there was the annual Fathers Day, and for all those Dad's out there I hope you had a great day with family and friends. Club "Working Bee": 11th Sep 22 As advertised in the last issue of our Club Bulletin and mentioned at our previous Club Meeting's this coming Sunday the 11th Sep 2022, all Members Partners, and family members will have an opportunity to "roll up your sleeves" and help out at the second instalment of the "Spreading of The Bark". This project is our Clubs involvement in collaboration with The Friends of Tanti Community Group, in working together to clean up and enhance the area around the Wooden Bridge that crosses Tanti Creek at Yuilles Road, known as Hunters Crossing. The plan is to meet around 9:30am with an expected finish time at approx Midday, or possibly earlier, with more hands on deck !! If you could please bring along a spade, a wheel barrow, a broom and of course for safety a pair of Gardening Gloves. The plan is to work with the Spreading of the Bark, and upon conclusion have a small BYO picnic lunch alongside the Bridge Crossing. Ross K will be co-ordinating this Project so if you are able to join in and help out could you please drop Ross a line: rosskilborn@outlook.com or Mob Ph on:0412 171666. Club Meetings - With so many Club Members away over the past four weeks or so, our last two Club Meetings have taken on a very relaxed social atmosphere in that we have had two informal get togethers which have been very enjoyable with there focus not so much on Club business matters but more on Fellowship. Two weeks ago about nine of us gathered at the Mornington Hotel, within the main Bistro Dinning area for a meal and a chat. Last week saw a few more Members and Partners gather at Kirks Hotel on The Esplanade. Such was the very positive vibes from our last outing to Kirks we decided to return and especially in view of the opportunity to wine, dine and listen to the wonderful voices of The Australian Male Welsh Choir, in full song. This occasion gave our Club the opportunity to present one of our recently retired Members, in John Renowden, with his long awaited PHF +3 Sapphire Pin. A few "secret plans behind the scenes" in that our President in conjunction with the Choir's President, James, resulted in a brief but very important presentation of the PHF Award. When the recognition came about John R was to say the least very, very, surprised and delighted to have this honour bestowed on him, in front of his family, Fellow Choir Members, Rotary Members and also a full house with many, many members of the general public on hand to witness this small but very important ceremony. The following day (being the Thursday morning), John sent thru a heartfelt thank you to our Club and such was the content of his message, it has been included within this Bulletin's Issue, well done John. Club Members enjoying a great meal and a social gathering at Kirks Hotel . John Renowden (l) with Club President Brian Mann and members of the Aust Welsh Male Choir at Kirks Hotel Hi Brian and members of the Rotary Club of Mornington, I write to thank you most sincerely for you presentation of my Paul Harris + 3 sapphire pin at the choir gathering last night. It was a well-constructed ambush and one of the best surprises I have ever had in my life!!! I knew the Rotary Club members were having a social night from your newsletter and was quite thrilled to see you and say hello to all around your table at Kirks on our Australian Welsh Male Choir pub night. Despite President James and a few others being aware of the event you had planned, I had no idea of what was about to happen when Brian took the microphone after our first bracket of songs . I thought he was probably going to advertise a significant Rotary Club event to all present. When he called me to the front to join him I was still in a state of surprise and wonderment . Why me? âŚwhat is he doing were my thoughtsâŚthen he began his speech ( which was very well done Brian ) and it suddenly dawned on me âŚthe missing award pin had arrived!! I was so glad Maree, my daughter Jane and Grandson Lachlan were our guests at our table for the night to witness this rather special presentation. Thank you Brian and members of the Mornington Rotary Club. I was surprised, flattered and felt honoured to be a recipient of the award so gratefully bestowed by the Club. I shall treasure it always. Kind Regards and my most sincere thanks John Renowden Upcoming Club Meeting At this weeks Club Meeting, tomorrow evening, Wednesday 7th Sep 22, we return to The Stratton Room within the Mornington Hotel for a more traditional meeting with our Guest Speaker Mr Mick Datto, from the Mornington Yacht Club, who will be providing a presentation on the Club's Sailiability Program. Presidents Report - 6th September 2022 Good afternoon to all my fellow Mornington Rotary Members and Partners. Peninsula Trail With the current chair of the Peninsula Trail Ross Kilborn, still up North for another week or so, in the Sun, sorry in the rain and wind !!! , this has not stopped him and his Team from Progressing with the ongoing work on this Major Rotary 100yr Projec,t and I recently received some more news/ updates for all to view, as below: âHello everyone, One of the important matters covered at our meeting with Council staff last Thursday was the importance of advocacy by the community for better State and Federal Funding for the Peninsula. Attached is a further document that outlines how community groups can go about this. You might at least be interested on the section on P5 about the Peninsula Trail. (This is in addition to the document I sent you last week about advocacy in the coming state election for the Peninsula Trail in particular) It really talks to a broader role for Rotary in connecting with and serving our community.â Regards Ross. Bunningâs BBQâs Last week we sent off an official request for consideration and possible bookings for the upcoming three months for dates for a Mornington Bunnings BBQ. As soon as we get any confirmation of dates, I will be passing on the details to our BBQ Team Leader David L. With the warmer weather now fast approaching it would be great to get back to more Fundraising and âadvertisingâ our Club. Peninsula Cluster â Interplast â Club Meeting Presentation & Cluster Dinner As you may or may not be aware there have been a few changes to our upcoming Club Calendar, and in particular one of the important changes to note is on Wednesday 28th Sep 22 the Past President of Somerville/ Tyabb Rotary Mr Chris Such, will be our special Guest Speaker. Chris will be providing a very informative overview of the Peninsula Clusterâs InterPlast Project. And following on from this there will be a very special night not to be missed on Tuesday 08th Nov 22 when the Peninsula Cluster Clubs will be invited to attend an Interplast Formal Dinner to be held at Toorak College. Details and invitations to follow, so keep an eye out, once I receive details I will pass on. The voting process is about to âopen upâ in ten daysâ time and as a final information seminar, please find as below the relevant details should you wish to register and view the presentation âThe Regionalisation pilot is proposed to explore, develop and test new ways of operating Rotary and Rotaract in our part of the world.â Content will be the same in each webinar, so you only need to attend one that best suits your schedule.
