From the Editor's Desk
Good afternoon to all Mornington Rotary Club Members, Partners and Families and I hope all is well. What a fantastic Sunday afternoon, with a quick pre breakfast walk this morning I spied lots of gardening and walkies out and about and quite a few very clean cars, mine for one has been cleaned more times that a used car sales lot, what about yours ? I received a note last week informing us of one of our Hon Club Members has just been to "repco spare parts " and now has a new hip, to Ari DW rest up, take care, a speedy recovery, and from the Mornington Rotary Club we all send you our well wishes. On a note of media interest, reading thru our own MPNEWS two weeks ago I came across an interesting inclusion under the Letters page, where one community member, who many of us will know, had some concerns pertaining to the flying and position of our National Flag on the flag pole located on top of the hill in Main St, Sorrento. Well did this stir up a number of responses, as this weeks edition see's a few responses/ comments, some interesting points of view on this subject. Also  I see that there has been is another " request " from our councillors for the Peninsula to be excluded from the Melbourne Lockdown restrictions.

Club Meetings - Last Week 18th Aug & Wed 25th Aug 21

At our last Club Meeting, on Wed 18th Aug 21, the focus of the night was to ' go around the table " whereby members could engage and pass on any interesting points of note from either a community and/or from a family perspective. It was great to hear what our members are up to in Lockdown. There was an array of activities some of which included baby sitting family members pets, helping out home schooling of the Grandchildren, with Mum and Dad at work and interesting challenges like " a treasure hunting expedition/challenge along the beach whilst out on an exercise walk". These were just a few of the innovative ways in which we are endeavouring to " keep sane ' over this current stay at home lifestyle. If you have any interesting projects , activities and idea's whilst confined at home I'm sure it would be great to pass on to you fellow Club Members, so please send them thru to our Bulletin Editor, Brian at - jen.brian@bigpond.com

This coming week our Club Meeting, on Wednesday 25th Aug 21 commencing at 6:00pm, will once agin be a ZOOM online format and we will hear from Ross K, who will provide us with and update on all things Bay Trail. Even though we are in Lockdown there have been a number of ongoing planning and financial matters taking place behind the scenes and we look forward to hearing from Ross. As per last week's meeting there will be a Meeting Session No 1 to conduct any items of general business and then Ross's talk, and Meeting Session No 2, should we need a bit more time to finish off. Both Meetings ID links will be sent out on Tuesday so you should be able to simply open the link and join in.

Toys in need of a " New Home"

About three weeks ago one our member's Partner's, Tess Coady, contacted our President with a very touching somewhat sad and very caring and thoughtful e-mail in regards to a young lad who she had contact with, who passed away 18 months ago after a long and debilitating illness.  Some time has now elasped since the young lad passed and there are a number of items specifically x 4 large box's of toys that were given to Tess, by the family, to see if they could be utilised/gifted to children within our Community who are doing it tough and may just need a new toy to brighten up their lives. There are a number of the toys that have not been opened and are in in excellent condition and those that have been opened are still in very good condition. If our current Club Chairs and/or any of our members are aware of any children who may a little gift please contact our Club President. The toys cover the age groups from 3 to 10 yrs old. Thanks and well done Tess for your very kind offer to help out.

A Good Samaritan Act of Support

At last weeks Club Meeting it was extremely uplifting to hear a great story of help afforded to a disabled member of the Mornington community. As we " went around the table" for items of interest, Ken Bilham provided us with a item of special note. With Ken and Wendy's daily walks up and down Barkly St they had noticed a residents fence that had fallen down and was in bad need of repair/ replacement. Ken informed us that the resident was severely disabled and was unable to undertake the repairs himself.  A look at the damaged fence indicated possible dismantlement and a new one to be built in its place, quite costly for someone with very limited self help abilities and finances. So our intrepid young Ken noticed a Building company constructing a number of Town Houses close by, and approached the foreman, and after a conversation an inspection of the fence a plan was initiated with the workers downing tools for a brief intermission on the building site to help out and in a very short time the existing fence " was back up own its feet" and looked like new. This is a fantastic example of what Rotarians can do with the ethos of helping out members of our community that are in need. A very special thanks must go to a very respected and retired AFL player, from the Saints, who provided the labour and time to " do this good deed" and to Ken for instigating a great act of community spirit, well done young Ken.

District 9820 Conference

Earlier this week our Club Secretary Ian H, sent out the e-mail to all members with the invitation form our DG, Bill Degnan to come along to the 9820 District Conference. All the details for registration, costing's, District Business, social activities, accomm and dining etc, can be found as per the attached link below. There is a vast array of activities on offer over the three day period that caters for all interests and needs.  With the 2021 District Conference that was somewhat curtailed, next year's Conference, should prove to be a highlight of our 9820 important events to attend. It would be great, after such a long delay, to see if we at Mornington, could get as many members as we can along to Traralgon in late Feb 22. A very a big thanks goes to our own Jo-Anne Davie who has kindly offered to be the Mornington Rotary Club coordinator as the POC for any of our members who are planning to attend. If you are planning to attend please register early and importantly please get in contact with Jo so she can "get our team" together.  Jo can contacted at : jodavie07@gmail.com or via SMS on 0412 235868.

Presidents Report 22nd August 2021
Good after afternoon to all

FUSION
The FUSION Sleep in Your Car fundraising event that was held on Saturday 07th Aug 21, resulted in a very worthwhile contribution of funds raised with a sum of $30k. This is a great effort by the community to a very worthwhile organisation.

Australian Rotary Health
The planned Australian Rotary Health 40TH Anniversary Dinner that was to be held at The Mornington Golf Couse on the evening of Saturday 13th Oct 21 has been cancelled/ postponed. This   decision was made by the ARH Board yesterday, Sat 21Aug 21, and is based on the current and the forecast of possible future COVID restrictions (hospitality, travel, lockdown Red Zones etc.) across all states. The dinner will now most likely be re-scheduled in Mar/ May 2022.

Funeral Service – Michael Coultas
The funeral for the Late Michael Gerard Bickerton Coultas will be held in the Sanctuary Chapel in Bunurong Memorial Park, on 24th August 2021, commencing at 2:30pm. Due to current COVID restrictions, family warmly invite you to view the service through the live streaming link below:

District 9820 Conference – An Invitation from our DG
“ District Governor Bill Degnan and Judy, together with the Rotary Club of Traralgon Central, invite you and all your members to come and join us in beautiful Traralgon, where the D9820 Conference will be held on the weekend of February 25-27, 2022, in the new Gippsland Performing Arts Centre. Registrations are now open. “

Working With Children (WWC)
Earlier this year (Mid June) I recived communication from our District Secretary requesting all Clubs within 9820 to conduct a vet with the view to engage with all members to “ check their individual personal profile/s” to see if they have registered for WWC and also for those who do have a current WWC Card to ensure that they up to date. A recent check of our Club indicates that we currently have only 11 Members who are in date, which equates to a value of only 35% of our members who comply. So as we are in Lockdown maybe in order to “ fill in some time ‘ maybe a search thru your wallet/purse and also your hard or computer files may uncover a WWC.
Joe Siragusa – joe.j.siragusa@gmail.com is our Clubs current Protection Officer so if you could please inform Joe of your status, this would be appreciated
