The 2021 Art Show that we imagined might never happen, is happening better than we could have imagined. Well done to everyone. We have all played some part in it, but special thanks to Richard and his Committee for all the planning, preparation and perseverance that got us here. Thank you. Our COVID Safe precautions have all been observed so well by all of our volunteers and visitors. I have heard quite a few comments from visitors that the show looks better because of its scaled back numbers (about 850 pieces to 650) . I also heard that many people appreciated the scaled back opening night (from over 400 to less than 150) because it gave more space and was less noisy. Maybe less is more ? Sunday was a big day with nearly 300 visitors despite the heat. Up until Monday lunchtime we had sold around 80 pieces. Several artists have sold 3/4 of their works. And on Sunday our show also went on line with sales already happening (there's another 120 pieces on line, some of which could not be bought to Melbourne due to border restrictions) and its open until Sunday the 31st. You can view it here https://morningtonartshow.com.au/gallery/ Tomorrow we are opening up to the Community with free admission and a complimentary Mornington Community Morning Coffee. Its being funded by the Australia Day Council through a national recognition project with Rotary Australia. Several clubs on the Peninsula are participating in different ways. You should have received detailed information about this earlier today. The coffee service ais being provided by Homeground who operate a coffee shop and catering service in Robertson Drive that trains young people in hospitality. On Wednesday of course all our successful buyers will come to collect their paintings and artists will collect the unsold ones, from 9am. By the middle of the afternoon we will be starting to disassemble screens and move them out etc If we are still going later in the afternoon we will organise a casual takeaway dinner at the Hall (there is of course no meeting on Wed night) . Throughout the Art Show we have been updating both our club and Art Show facebook pages and I would be very pleased to receive any feedback you may have heard on them. Both District 9820 and other Clubs such as Mt.Martha have been very good at promoting the Art Show via them. Our first normal meeting for the year will be at the Mornington Hotel on Wednesday February 3 and from then we plan to be back to normal weekly meetings. We are planning an Art Show Celebration night for all our partners, volunteers etc on Wednesday February 24. Full details of upcoming meetings appear in the columns at the side of this newsletter and our website. There is a national Rotary Australia Day celebration on line event for Australia Day details of which are at https://rotary9820.org.au/. It has some great speakers and entertainers but most of us will be at the Art Show ! Still you may have friends and family that are interested. PS - our normal Editor and President Elect, Brian is away at Lake Tyers with a large family reunion until Feb 5th ....so until then I remain your stand in Bulletin Editor ! Regards Ross |
