Major Club Project – Roof over the Long Table
Late on Friday afternoon I received some very pleasing news from John Renowden in regards to one of our Club’s major ongoing projects, that being The Roof over The Long Table. Council have now sourced a builder who can erect the roof for the costing as per our club’s contribution, including Council and Federal Gov.’s Grants totalling $45k. Council have also agreed to cover any other additional site costs (drainage connection etc.) Our POC at Council, Brett, will now seek final approval via VIC Heritage Construction requirements etc., and has indicated that these should be a formality and subsequently forthcoming. This is great news, and a very, very big thanks goes to John R and all the team that have persisted with this project for some two years, well done and hopefully this coming Dec/Jan we can all sit around the Long Table with shelter from the Summer Sun.
Upcoming Club & District Events
With last weeks Vic Govnt announcement pertaining to the proposed pathway out of lockdown, may not see us able to meeting face to face until possibly at the earliest the end of Oct and I predict about mid Nov!!. Reading thru our District Newsletter there were a number of events promulgated to proceed in a face to face environment such as The Rotary Leadership Institute Forum and the District AGM & Foundation Seminar, and a few other events which will now have to be “ amended in their presentation format”.
These new COVID plans will also effect our Clubs weekly/ monthly events, by now we are all aware of the Bunning’s BBQ’s that are off the Calender and it certainly looks as though the Art Show Cocktail Function may also suffer from nil ability to proceed, also our planned Social Dining evenings will now have to wait. Our Club Calender is “ still in a holding pattern “ and I had planned to dist it to all members but alas we will have to go with a week-by-week schedule for the time being.
Rotary Zone 8 Conference
By now we all should have received from our District Secretary the invitation to register to be a part of the Rotary Zone 8 Conference, quite obviously our current lockdown circumstance will potentially allow for many Rotarians who might not normally be able to attend in person, to participate in what promises to be a stimulating and entertaining Rotary event. Please do not hesitate to register, as this event is now only a week away tomorrow. If you have not received the e-mail for registration and wish to join in on the Conference please contact me ASAP and I can provide the e-mail link.
Club Weekly Meetings
I have obtained (last week) a ZOOM licence for our club that now will give us the ability to conduct meeting’s online, without time limits so we can now hold numerous meeting, from Board to Club Chairs and general Club Business Meeting’s, and I’m hoping we can physically conduct our AGM planned for Wed 17th Nov 21 without having to utilise ZOOM, as AGM’s are always an important Club Business and social event.
Our next Club Meeting will see a Guest Speaker (Peter Sindrey, the current President of the Lakes Entrance Rotary Club) and over the comings weeks I will endeavour to conduct our weekly online meetings with the view to invite a Guest Speaker to provide an abridged presentation.
To that end I am seeking assistance from firstly from our Club Chairs and also all members who may be able to provide a Guest Speaker to join us at our weekly meeting. If you have anyone in mind please give me a call so I can arrange/schedule a meeting for them to undertake a presentation, thanks.
