From the Editor

A good morning to my fellow Mornington Rotarians, partners and friends. I hope all is well and both you and your families are going along OK. Another week of cold and woolly weather and I hope your residence faired OK and missed out on the recent storm damage and was spared any damage from falling trees and limbs. For those unfortunate families in and around the Dandenongs and also down at Traralgon they certainly have had a very traumatic last week and are still feeling the effects of the wild weather. I would expect that in the coming weeks that Rotary and specifically our 9820 District will " stand-up" and offer assistance to those who have been adversely effected. I called by our Club's Meeting venue yesterday afternoon, and The Mornington Hotel stills remains partially closed with very, very service limited and a phone call earlier this morning to the Duty Manager informed me that " watch this space" on Friday afternoon when they will be able clarify future density operating services. I inquired about our planned Changeover Night, for Wednesday 30th June 2021, and there was a potentially optimistic response with " we should be pretty close to the mark ", fingers crossed we can still go ahead.

Last Week - Club Meeting; Foundation/International Report

Last Wednesday evening we all went "back to the future" for a Club Meeting via ZOOM and the meeting was hosted by our International & Foundation Chair, Richard.  Richard provided us with a raft of current projects and events that our club is involved in. One of particular note is the Donations In Kind, which is a major Rotary Facility located in the Western Suburbs. The facilities purpose is to store, manage, classify and distribute a very large amount of goods which have been donated to Rotary, for distribution both within Australia but primarily for overseas countries. Our Club, via overwhelming support of the members, has agreed to provide financial support, for this year and also in 2022, to assist with the ongoing rental fees to enable this branch of Rotary to continue with all their good work. The Presidents Report, as shown below, provides further information pertaining to the support of Foundation matters from last weeks meeting. Well done to Richard and his committee for all their ongoing work within a very important area of focus for Rotary.

This Weeks Club Meeting - Wed 16th June 21

This weeks Club Meeting we will see a "refreshing change" from another Club Meeting via ZOOM, although they have been an important part of our ability to "keep in touch", it will be great to get together for a chat, a glass of vino and a dinner meal. So if you and your partner/ wife are available we are planning to have a social get together on Wednesday 16th June 20219, tommorrow evening, at the Uthong Thai Resturant located at 216 Main St, Mornington, commencing at 6;30pm. Our Club President has sent out an e-mail to advise and as off this morning there are still 10/11 seats left. So if you are partial to Thai Cuisine please give Ross a call or SMS on 0412-171 666 and secure your seat. The cost is $40.00 for a Banquet meal and BYO or in Resturant purchase of refreshments is available.

Upcoming Club IT Workshop

Over the past few years our club has progressed into the world of Information Technology (IT) which has seen a number of management processes move forward to align with current practices to keep us abreast of the way forward within Rotary. This shift has been driven and very actively embraced and strongly encouraged from Rotary 9820 District and also from Rotary Zone 8. Having said this we still get together as often as we can by conducting face to face meetings etc, but the underlying engine that drives nearly all of our lives is IT. Over the past two years with the effects of COVID and a sudden change in our traditional methods of conducting meetings, workshops and seminars communications methods, such as ZOOM has had a very profound way on which we all converse with one another, not just within Rotary but at all levels of community both socially and professionally. The very clear message coming out of Rotary, at all levels of governance, is to keep abreast of these changes and utilise this medium to "enhance the way we do business". As a result our Club will be offering a "mini workshop", allowing for COVID distancing/ gathering guidelines. The first workshop will be to ' look at our own Club Runner" and conduct a brief overview of how this IT system works and how we use it to manage our day to day club business. Our Club President, Ross, and our IT Media Chair, Brian, will be conducting the workshop which is planned to only go for about 30 to 40 minutes and the presentation will be catering for all levels of the participants IT knowledge. At this stage the first workshop will take place on Tuesday 29th June 2021, mid morning, with the venue still to be decided. We are looking at the possibility of conducting the workshop within the new Community House in Wilsons Road, within their purpose built IT room. If you are interested please give drop a line to either Ross and/or Brian.

Australian Rotary Health - 40th Anniversary Celebration Dinner

This year will see a very special event within Rotary and especially one that has a very, very significant focus within our own club, and that being the 40th Anniversary Birthday Celebration of Australian Rotary Health. Over the past few months plans have been undertaken to celebrate this special event and a date and venue has now been set. Friday the 20th August 2021 will see an evening Dinner accompanied by a number of Guest Speakers. The evening will be held at The Mornington Golf Course, so if you are free please " pencil in this date to your diaries". Specific details accompanied with an invitation will be coming to you in the next few weeks.

Birthday's & Anniversaries

This coming week, on Thursday, we acknowledge the Birthday of one of our recent/new Club Members in Judy Seager. To Judy on behalf of the Board all our Members and their Partners we wish you a very happy Birthday with many more to come.

Presidents Report - 15th June 2021

This week’s meeting …as we are not able to hold our normal meeting at the Hotel’s Stratton Room.
Rather than a Zoom meeting we are having a social dinner at the Uthong Thai in Main St. You should have received a separate email and bookings are required by 8pm Tues. Thanks.
We have deferred Peter McGinley of ADFA to the following week, the 23rd. Hopefully we will be back at the Hotel.

Fusion Bathroom – the good news, reported by Victor, is that it is about to get underway! Thanks to the Council, who have expedited the design, planning and approval, at their cost, and added a financial contribution of $11k to add to our $20k for the construction. Though we originally approved this on the basis of it being completed by the end of June,  I think we all agreed we are happy to see it happen, even if it runs a few weeks over. We all appreciate what Fusion does and a good female bathroom seems a fundamental for their client’s dignity.

Recommendation of the International and Foundation Committee were all approved at last week’s meeting including
  1. Polio Plus, a contribution of $5000
  2. Australian Rotary Foundation,  a contribution of $5000
  3. Donations in Kind - $3500 each of this financial year, and next, towards the rental of their warehouse. (Total $7000)

We also approved contributions to Australian Rotary Health of
  1. Lift the Lid $5000 – 40th Anniversary Appeal
  2. Indigenous Scholarship for Molly King for the calendar year 2021, $2500, which has already been paid.

I think we all recognise that we are very fortunate this year to have been able to conduct our major Fundraiser, and be in a financial position to contribute to the broader Rotary projects, when other clubs are less able to do so.

Books Does anyone have a copy of two published books on the History of Australian Rotary Health? “In Search of Health” written by Paul Henningham in 2001  and “With Health in Mind” 2011. Also has any member seen a copy of the recently published book “Humanity in Action”?

Club Runner As many of you know we use Club Runner for much of our admin, including the Bulletin, website, membership records, emails etc. I am going to run an intro / overview session on how this all works,  for any interested members, at my place at 10.30am  Tuesday 29 thJune. (assuming we can) Please let me know if you are interested.

The Coming weeks

Who knows how we will be meeting over the next few weeks. It’s a week by week proposition, so the calendar on the website and the side column of this Bulleting is tentative. Fingers crossed for Changeover night on the 30th! Mt.Eliza had to conduct theirs on Zoom last week.

Regards

Ross
