09th August 2021
From the Editor's Desk
Good evening to all Mornington Rotary Club Members, Partners and Families and I hope all is well. For all those Sporting tragic out there this current lockdown has to some degree been a bit bearable with watching the Tokyo Olympics and WOW what a feast of some truly amazing performances by our Aussie athletes, but with the closing ceremony, last night, we will have to find another outlet to help stop us all going "a bit stir crazy" . My travels out of home to provide care to an elderly family member over in Mt Martha with shopping and food deliveries see's a lot of  "walkies" and exercising going on, and its great to see our community still endeavouring to get on with things as much as the rules are allowing us. Don't forget its coming up to Census time of the year, next week on Tuesday night 10th Aug 21, will find us " ticking and crossing all those boxes "

Our Next Club Meeting, Wed 11th August 21  Board Meeting

This coming Wednesday evening will be a Club Board Meeting, so all members can have a " free night " away from ZOOM.

At last weeks meeting we had another social theme and it was great to hear from both Pam Hall and Jo-Anne Davie, who presented a brief Bio on their life thus far. Both ladies provided a very informative and entertaining insight into their upbringing, family, romance, career, social and current interests that are keeping them busy in retirement, Many thanks to Pam and Jo. We also heard from one of our " return travellers" in John Renowden. As you may remember both John and Maree managed to get to go north and to some degree dodged the lockdown ( closure of State Borders) and get back home without too much disruption. John provided us with a brief overview of their holiday in the warmer weather. Both John and Maree also " caught up with " Victor and George-Ann on the Sunshine Coast, great to hear.

On the note of warmer weather, our past President Ross is still travelling around QLD and has sent thru a few pics of the local attractions in his location and one that comes to note is an interesting and novel feature that may be a project for one of our Mornington Parks / Playgrounds. A mini Rockclimbing blob !!!

This week we can finally announce a few Club Members and Partners Birthdays , great !! At last weeks Club Meeting we had two apologies in Judy and Eileen who were busy celebrating their husbands Birthday also yesterday saw the birthday of one of our newer Club Members in Pam Hall. Also on Saturday, just gone Meredith Horton celebrated a birthday and we hope Ian cleared the moths out of his wallet and spent lots on a big Birthday present.  One of the very, very special events we celebrate in our lives is the institution of marriage and last week was marked by the Anniversary of Daryl and Fran Chambers, well done to a beautiful couple and you both should be very proud of this special event. On behalf of the President, The Board all the Members and their Partners we wish you all a very happy birthday and a wedding anniversary and hope you were all spoilt, received lots of presents, had a great dinner and received lots of well wishes from family and friends.

Presidents Report 09th August 2021

Good afternoon to all

With our current living, working social and sporting activities somewhat curtailed this weeks Presidents report is slightly “light-on” with not a great deal happening within our neck of the woods. I feel it is important that we can keep in touch as much as possible, during these lockdowns, to engage with one another and ensure we are keeping safe, happy and healthy. As had been the case in the past over the last 18 months if you have any items of interest, home projects etc. please pass them thru to me and I can include any items of interest onto all members via our Club Bulletin

With the latest Lockdown our 9820 District Rotary Leadership Institute course in that was to be conducted on Saturday, at Drouin was cancelled with the view to reschedule this seminar until later this year. Our Club had two members attending and hopefully with the reschedule both Judy and Jo will be able to rearrange their diaries for the new dates.

Within my Presidents Report from back on the 19th July I mentioned a note of importance from District in regards to Membership. Since then District has instigated a forum to be conducted, this week: Membership Channel goes online.
Zoom Meeting Details Wednesday 11th August 2021 06:30pm.
If you’re free and sitting at home as most of us are, log on and join in.

With the current COVID restrictions the ability of active membership drives within all clubs has been to some degree adversely affected, but we should still remain to be proactive, as much as we can on this very important facet of Rotary.

We don’t seem to having too much success lately with actually running a Bunning’s BBQ Sausage Sizzle, and Bunning’s to their commitment to all Community Groups have once again generously donated a $500 Gift Voucher. We seem to be accumulating a few Gift Vouchers!

The rearrangement of many of our planned Club Meetings, Guest Speakers and Social events are an ever-moving project, so for the time being we are “ locked into ZOOM Meetings. If any members have a contact that is willing to deliver a brief (10 to 15 min presentation) please drop me a line, this would be appreciated to enable our weekly meetings to proceed with some degree of normality.

Regards

Brian
