Wednesday 10th June 2020

From the Editor

For those who were unable to 'attend' our last Club Meeting held on Wednesday 10th June 2020, the format was a Cluster Meeting consisting of all the Rotary Clubs on the Peninsula and also from the other Clubs within our 9820 District. The meeting was very well attended with some 67 members tuning in. The Meeting was hosted by Stephen Daly and the Guest Presenter was our own Club President Ross. The main focus of the Meeting was to present one of the Major Projects that District 9820 are investigating as our Rotary Centenary Project, that being the Peninsula Clubs contribution to the current Bay Trail. Ross presented a brief but extremely thorough overview of the current Bay Trail and the proposed additions/ extensions to to current infrastructure.  After the presentation there was quite a lengthy period of questions from a great number of the members covering a wide range of concerns, inquiries and also further items to be considered. Both Ross and Stephen responded in a very competent and confident manner.  Our current DG  Adrian Froggatt was online and he along with the vast majority of the viewers were very impressed with the large amount of background investigation and proposed planning items that Ross has undertaken over the past months. The extension to the current Bay Trail as part of our Districts Major Rotary Centenary Project is one of a number of projects that our district is looking into, and is still only tagged as a proposal with many more aspects to be considered before any deliberation can be made.

Mornington Rotary Club - Youth Story

With the very recent easing of COVID19 restrictions pertaining to the States Schooling attendance guidelines, our Youth Chair, John Renowden has been busy and his story/ report is as detailed below:

On Friday I received an application from Ben Hansen to attend the National Youth Science Forum ( NYSF) in Canberra in January 2021.

I spoke to President Ross and, as the applications were thought to close very soon, we decided to interview him and complete his paperwork…we later found that these dates were extended on Saturday so we now have plenty of time for Ben to complete his application.
Richard Vautier and I interviewed Ben on Saturday morning at my home in the presence of his dad David Hansen who is a Maths and science Secondary Teacher.
Ben, a year 11 student from Padua College interviewed very well and came across to us a fine young man who is quite passionate about science and maths.
He presented well and spoke confidently and clearly. He meets the required criteria of the program. He has been active in local junior sport and has a part time job at Coles.
Richard and I agreed that Ben was an ideal Candidate for NYSF and have no hesitation in endorsing his application.
Our club traditionally has paid half the costs of this youth program (about$1625) from our existing youth budget. District youth chair Steve Daly has been informed of Ben’s application and is pleased to learn we have a candidate.
Ben will now go to a district interview later in the year and hopefully will be selected as our club endorsed representative student.

We hope you have an enjoyable, safe and Happy Birthday, and with easing of social restrictions we hope you can celebrate your special day with family and friends, well done to Judy and Peter.

Upcoming online Meetings

If you are available please don't forget we have a number of meetings over the three to four weeks, before we can once again meet up face to face at a date to be determined. And on that note, with the upcoming VIC State Governments announcement scheduled for the 21st June, which is expected to promulgate (fingers crossed) some possible  further easing of social gatherings, we might be able to " get back together " sooner.

Our next online ZOOM Meeting, which will be conducted tomorrow evening ( Wednesday 17th June 2020 commencing at 6;00pm) will cover amongst other items a very important presentation in regards to the introduction of the new Rotary Constitution and Club By-Laws as intsigated via our District 9820, and mandated as part of the Victorian State Government Statue Laws.

As most of us are aware with just about all Clubs, Organisations etc, the tabling of Rules and Regulations can be somewhat " dry '  but the introduction of these new By-Laws are very important to the function and management of our Rotary Club and the Presentation will cover the important aspects of the proposed changes.  Having viewed the PPT presentation that we will see tomorrow evening it will be concise and certainly " not a long and drawn out process ', so please try to log-in and join in tomorrow evening.

President's Update
President’s Report

This week is an important Special General Meeting at 6pm on Zoom
Meeting ID: 927 056 436  Password: 294331
The purpose is to discuss and adopt our new Rules and Constitution. You should have received all the details associated with this by email from Ian, last week. If not, or if you have any questions please let us know. Included in that email was a letter from me that hopefully explains it all. Brian will explain it all on the night too. Yes it’s probably not the most exciting topic, but it has been a good lockdown project to get done, just like all those home maintenance items!  So please join us to approve and complete it.
Hopefully we can get through this business fairly quickly and we can spend some time on a social update too.

The following week is an open discussion about our significant new project options, led by Victor and his working group. There’s a range of options that have been identified and we genuinely want all members thoughts on which would should pursue in more detail in order to make recommendations.  One of the options is the Bay Trail, that was explained in the Cluster meeting last week, as a potential Peninsula wide Rotary Centenary Project. Thanks to those members who listened in.

By that meeting on the 24th we should also know the update on the regulations regarding face to face meetings, so we can also discuss your preferences on that subject.

There seems to be a plethora of Rotary things coming up ..perhaps as everyone has got more proficient at on line technologies there has been a lot more made available. They include

Part 1  Rotary Learning Centre modules for key club roles – this is to be done preferable before the Part 2 & 3 online topics are scheduled.

Part 2  Sunday 21st June - Main Plenary 2 hours ONLINE VIA ZOOM and then President Elect, Secretary and Treasurer Breakouts

Part 3 Rotary Role and Topic Online Breakouts - Various dates through July 2020

The registration links are here https://district9820.org/sitepage/district-assembly-2020/welcome on our district website.
We also have The District Changeover on Sunday June 28 and the Rotary International Convention from June 20-27. It may not be as much fun as going to Honolulu but it’s on line. Details at https://www.riconvention.org/en/honolulu?gclid=Cj0KCQjwrIf3BRD1ARIsAMuugNsGPXtaxusz1za6FkHgRS9A6c5W7lwzBkiYpYLdZPGil374B6bcVmcaAphZEALw_wcB
I think all members would have received more information about all of the above directly from District and its all on their facebook page.
