From the Editor

Good morning my fellow Mornington Rotarians. Another week and another new first, this time is was the very, very special event being Mothers Day, under lockdown. For my family we had a great day with three online "hook ups' with our beautiful daughters and Grandchildren. I hope that your Mothers Day went well and you were able to contact, in some form or other, to give our Mums a special hello, hugs and well wishes.  Our Mums are so special in our lives not only through our infancy, childhood and adolescence, but no matter how old we get and at some time in our mature years we still turn to our Mothers for advise and those kind words of comfort and wisdom. For those of us, and I'm one, whose Mums are no longer with us, we still reflect and reminisce of all the good times and think of those special little things that our Mums did for us.  They are always in our heart. Thanks Mum  x

Bushfire Relief Project

It was great to see, via the special efforts of our Club President Ross, compile, coordinate and supply a large number of Winter Woolies for those in need in our East Gippsland Bush Fire affected area's. Many thanks go to Mr Phil Endersbee from The Rotary Club of Melbourne for his efforts in this Project. The full details are contained within the President's Report.

My Isolation Project

This week we have a "very different " isolation project with our favourite's the Mornington Rotary BBQ Man, David Lancashire, undergoing a grooming moment. All those somewhat White Locks" being clipped , pruned and lopped off. Well done David and your isolation project makes you look that little bit youthful.

President's Update
President’s Report

Hello to another week in self-isolation.

Thanks to around half the members for attending last week’s Zoom meeting. Hopefully it was a good blend of a social catch up, and an update on the several projects the club is progressing.
We had reports from all our Committee Chairs, including Peter on the possible Gateway Park Project, and Long Table Roof, Richard on the Art Show, and some developments with End Trachoma, and a possible new project in cyclone ravaged Vanuatu.

A significant new Project
Victor gave an outline of the many people we are talking to in order to identify a significant new project for the club. Subsequently on Thursday we had a meeting with David Morris. Thanks Victor

New Rules and ByLaws
Brian gave an update on a project to update our Rules and By Laws. Lock down (or up) is probably as good a time as any to do this, but coincidentally Rotary International has recently provided new versions of the standard editions. The Rules are pretty much standard for all 32,000 clubs around the world, adapted for Australian and Victorian legislation. The ByLaws, that sit under them, can be altered more easily. The Board hopes to have recommended versions to you by the end of the month for adoption at a meeting in June. Thanks Brian.

Bushfire Relief
Recall, one of our guest speakers, last year was Phil Endersbee, from the Rotary Club of Melbourne, who are amongst other things, are driving the Rotary Centenary and end Trachoma project we are contributing to. Phil kindly responded to our enquiry about helping the District 9820 appeal for warm clothing.   Through his business, Wilderness Wear, he donated 260 beanies and pairs of winter socks for both adults and kids. (value over $5k) . They have a great range of warm winter and active clothing at  https://wildernesswear.com.au/ .
Thanks too to Ross Schweitzer, President of Mt.Eliza Rotary, for delivering them for us, together with all the knitted goods Mt.Eliza has arranged.

Coming Up
This week, the 13th we have no meeting .

On Wednesday the 20th, we have a Guest Speaker, Mark Anderson, to update us on the Rotary Foundation. Thanks to John P for initiating this as a result of our recent contribution of $5k to End Polio Now. Mark is the Senior Coordinator, Fund Development for The Rotary Foundation at the South Pacific and Philippines Office in Parramatta. He has been a Rotarian for over 30 years, being a member in Clubs in Victoria, New South Wales and South Africa.

On the 27th May is a Board Meeting, part of the Business of which will be to consider the new Rotary Constitution and Club ByLaws.

Regards

Ross
