From The Editor
This weekend has seen a few items of note that being I hope all remembered to turn back your clock before going to bed on Saturday night, I for one have come to rely on modern technology let my smart phone remember for me ! Also on Friday we saw the 01st April come and go and as we move forward thru the years the old April Fools Day Jokes are now becoming a thing of the past and maybe rightly so as in days gone by some people went a bit to far. With Easter only a few weeks away for those who partake in the giving of Easter Eggs or in however your family may with to mark this occasion, maybe as a traditional family get together I wish you a safe, happy and enjoyable Easter Holiday break..

Last Weeks - Mr Chris Crewther
At last weeks we had the pleasure to Mr Chris Crewther, the former member for The Australian House of Representatives address our members on the Subject of Modern Slavery, Chris has extensive background knowledge on this subject as he instigated and led our Federal Governments Modern slavery Inquiry, bring about the "Hidden Plain Sight" report and The Modern Slavery Act. It was to say the least an"eye opener" into this somewhat overlooked subject. Chris' presentation covered all aspects of this very serious and frightening happenings both at home and especially overseas. So what is modern Slavery Modern, it can best be described as: the severe exploitation of other people for personal or commercial gain. Modern slavery is all around us, but often just out of sight. People can become entrapped making our clothes, serving our food, picking our crops, working in factories, or working in houses as cooks, cleaners or nannies.  It is estimated that up to 15,000 people are living in conditions of modern slavery in Australia.
Forced marriage appears the most prevalent form of modern slavery in Australia. It involves being tricked, forced or coerced into a marriage without full consent. Of the estimated 15.4 million people in such arrangements globally, 13 million are female. We tend to take for granted the vast array of modern gadgets we all use in our day to day lives such as our iPhones, but a not very published fact is that the Lithium-ion batteries found in most smartphones and electronics have a metal oxide cathode made of a cobalt, and this product is mined overseas under absolutely appalling conditions by Children under Modern Slavery. Governance and especially fines, penalties and prosecution are at time nearly non exsitsant and the Modern Salvery act is focused on Industries to self regulate and look into their own operating practices, one can only hope that this is occurring. A very big thanks to Chris for this very investing and awaking presentation.

Club Meeting - 6th April - Guest Speaker
At this week upcoming Club Meeting we will host Ms Lara Olsen from South East Water.  Lara holds a number of degrees in BEng (Chem) (Hons), BArts, MBA, GAICD Managing Director. Lara was appointed as South East Water's Managing Director on 17 February 2020, leading the delivery of water, sewerage and recycled water services to 1.91 million people who rely on us every day and every night. Presidents Report - 4th April  2022

Good afternoon to all,

Club’s 75th Anniversary Dinner
Our Clubs 75th Anniversary Dinner to be held at The Mornington Golf Course on Thursday 21st April 2022, is tracking along” on course “ so far all invitations were sent out some 5 weeks ago and the response has been pleasing. We have at this late stage a 95% acceptances attendance from our Club Members and with our Past members from all the invitations sent out we have about a 45% acceptances attendance. Unfortunately there are a number of past members who cannot be contacted with unknown contact details and quite a few who thru health reasons are unable to attend, but having said that I’m sure the night will be a great Club Social occasion for current and past Members to mingle.
A big thanks goes to John R and Peter J for “ answering the call “ for a selection of photo’s of days gone by in the Club and also a very big thanks to Victor S, who I hear has some interesting Memorabilia to be on display ay our upcoming 75thBirthday.

Environmental Considerations along the Trail, and upcoming PR via Newspaper Advertising.

RI Polio Presentation
Recently International Polio Plus Chair, Michael McGovern, held a
discussion about the current Polio situation.

Here is a link to the recording where you can have an opportunity to
hear a firsthand, and get updated on what's happening on the eradication
frontlines. Learn more about our polio program, how it has and continues
to change our world.

Maybe you think you have already heard all you need about polio
but do you know what the Polio Oversight Board (POB) is and how
it operates? Who are our partners (did you know we have a new partner?) and what are their responsibilities?  What about surveillance activities - how does this
system operate? What's happening during this time of Covid, how is
our polio program impacted, where will it go from here? How is your
contribution spent? How does Rotary's advocacy committee operate?

It is about an hour, so sit back, relax and listen with a cuppa and biscuit.
