From The Editor. What a great time to be out and about in Mornington. Usually by this time of the year, as has been the case in the past we would have endured those stifling hot 38o plus northerly winds Summer Days and at times accompanied with the very unpleasant smell of our native bush alight, but this Summer has certainly proven to "very different" and this with easing of a fair amount of COVID guidelines over the past month, and also some of the The Mask restrictions changing this Friday, see's our town just about back to normal. One great outcome has been the ability to get to our fantastic Peninsula Markets and a favourite of mine the upcoming Red Hill Show on Sat the 12th Mar. For a major tourist destination a lot of businesses went thru some very tough times and for those who indeed managed "to get thru it all", things are certainly on the improve and this has a great flow on effect to our Community. On a note of interesting or possible quirky trivia numerals, if you look at todays date it reads the 22nd of the year 2022, so the tonight at the old time of 10;22pm will the planets align ? at the 22nd, of 2022 @ 2222hrs. đł PS the funny face pic in in size 22 font !!! Last Weeks Meeting - Board Meeting Last week was time for all members "to take the night of" so to speak with a break from our regular Club Members Meetings with a Board Meeting. All Board Members were in attendance with one member "tuning in via ZOOM from along the Coastline". The meeting allowing for dinner was spread out over about two hours with a lot of club issues dealt with. With each Chair presenting their individual reports a fair number of proposed projects were tabled which will be presented to all members at the earliest convenience for discussion and ratification. Our Club Secretary will, very shortly, be distributing the Minutes of the Board meeting for all members to view. Next Club Meeting - Tomorrow Evening - The Blackbird Our first formal Social Event for this year takes place tomorrow evening in the form of a dinner at the Blackbird Cafe. For all those members and their Partner's who have booked a table it should prove to be a very pleasant evening. A big thanks to Pam Hall for organising the evening and hopefully all members, partners and guest's have paid their dinner fee of $45.00 per head into our Club's Bank Account- Bendigo Bank BSB 633-000 Acct 146 806 344, See you at The Blackbird. Upcoming Club Meeting - Wednesday 02nd Mar 22 In just over a weeks time, we will be back at the Mornington Hotel for what should prove to be a special night when our Art Show Chair, Richard, will deliver a much anticipated Mornington 40th Anniversary 2022 Art Show Presentation. Last year, and also in years gone past this evening has traditionally attracted a nearly full house with a fair few members bringing along their partners, so it might be wise to "book in" to ensure that everyone gets a seat. With our Social Director Pam Hall away on the "high sea's" it is requested that you give our President a heads up for your attendance, by contacting Brian on SMS Mobile Ph 0417 749355 or via e-mail at: jen.brian@bigpond.com Peninsula Cluster Rotary Movie Night For those Members and Partners who may remember that terrible period last year of being confined to "self house arrest", when all things of a social nature are virtually banned, our Peninsula Cluster ADG, endeavoured to launch the Australian Premier of the movie The Duke, well after two unsuccessful attempts to screen this delightful movie I can report that its back and this time "its a goer'. Yes the Duke will now be screened as part of the Rotary - END POLIO NOW major fund-raising event. The screening will take place at The Rosebud Cinema on the evening of Friday 18th March 2022. So if you are still keen to see this film and at the same time contribute to a very worthwhile Rotary cause keep this date free. Our Assistant Peninsula DG, Peter Rawlings, will send out a flyer within the next two days with all specific details, which will be then sent out to all Members. Rotary District 9820 Conference '' Ladies and Gentlemen, please stand clear the train for Traralgon" will be departing from platform #18414. Please see the "article" in the Presidents report below, thanks. Presidents Report - 22nd Feb 2022 Good afternoon to all, Off to Traralgon This week on Thursday and Friday an intrepid âbunch of travellersâ from our Club will be making their way along the AI Highway towards Gippsland to partake in the Annual 9820 District Conference. With the publication/ announcement over the past eight weeks of the many and varied social and formal Rotary events to be presented throughout the three day conference, for those attending, the conference it should prove to be a very informative and entertaining long weekend. A very big thanks goes to our âCCâ (Conference coordinator) Jo Davie for all her work in pounding the keyboards and numerous e-mails and phone calls which has resulted in a great turn out for our Clubs involvement, well done Jo. |
District 9820 Rotary Risk Management As president I receive a lot of communication from our District Governorâs and District Chairs most of which I deal with at Club Secretary and/or our Board Memberâs level, but a recent e-mail sent thru to me and earlier this week from our District Insurance Officer Phil Thurgood, may be of note to all members in that it provides guidance and policy on such matters as: - List of insurance policies
- Stallholder liability
- COVID guidelines
- Public Liability â Risk Management principles
A number of items of interest within the Handbook pertain to our Clubs projects and events such as our Art Show. This Handbook may prove to be a useful guide for some of those â tricky or unknown questionsâ we encounter in the world of Risk Management associated with Community based Volunteer Organisation such as Rotary Mornington Community Information and Support Centre As some of our members may already be aware that Stuart Davis-Meehan has tendered his resignation as the Manager of our local Mornington Community Information and Support Centre as of 11th March 2022. Stuart requested that I forward on his announcement all our Members and also expressed that â I want to thank you for your support and for all the wonderful work that you do to assist the most disadvantaged and vulnerable people in the Mornington area. It has been privilege to work with you. I am so proud of the work that we have done over the past almost 4 years. At this stage there has been no replacement identified for the position. Our Club has over the past few years since Stuartâs term as Manager both worked in collaboration to provide assistance to the members of our community â doing it toughâ and The Ranch Motel Homeless Facility is a great example of this, along with the now Annual Christmas Train Ride. Stuartâs enthusiasm and professional approach to helping those in our community will be sadly missed. To that I end, I have invited Stuart who (who has accepted) to be our Guest Speaker in two weeks time at our Club Meeting on Wednesday 09th March 2022 Mornington Rotaryâs 75th Anniversary Dinner Our Clubâs 75th Anniversary Dinner is â tracking alongâ with a number of what you might call â mini projectsâ well underway and one very important item is a list of past Club Members that is currently being compiled. I will send out via e-mail today the names of quite a few past members that have been provided to me and with your assistance I hope to be able to âtrack downâ their contact details with the view to finalising Past Members Invitation List.
