30th August 2021
From the Editor's Desk
Good afternoon to all Mornington Rotary Club Members, Partners and Families and I hope all is well. The last few weeks have brought back visions of the Bill Murray Movie "Groundhog Day" and from what we all now hear is that its not looking all the best just at the moment for the next few weeks, but lets hope and I'm sure that we are doing our best to keep one another safe and positive whilst staying at home. On that note I have just read a very interesting article in today's issue of The Age under the "letters" section in regards to The Mornington Peninsula's lockdown adherence of the guidelines, have a read, its a somewhat different outlook on our current stay at home lifestyle. For those who follow the AFL, last week saw the conclusion of the Home and Away Rounds and from the Footy Tipping Competition, under the management of Peter Jay, is was great to see our own Fran C up there finishing on the podium with a Silver Medal, well done Fran

Club Meetings - Last Week & Upcoming on Wed 01st Sep

At our last Club Meeting, on Wed Aug 26th, it was great to hear from Ross K on the current status of the Bay Trail, but unfortunately our intrepid host had a bit of finger trouble with uploading the Link and associated Slideshow, but here's hoping that all our members received the PowerPoint Show via the e-mail and have time to have a look over the contents and also the attached Bay Trail graphic Map. This major Project has now grown in both public and more importantly Council's scope and planning for the future. There has been and still continues to be an amazing amount of planning and behind the scenes work from a very focused and conscious team all contributing to this important project and it is very pleasing that our Past President is " heading up the project ". A we are all aware  such a large project as The Bay Trail will be ongoing for quite a few years to come and we will no doubtably receive future updates and reports as there is still " a mountain of work to be done" well done Ross and keep up the great work.

This coming week our Club Meeting, on Wednesday 01st Sep 21, commencing at 6:00pm, will once again be a ZOOM online format and with the view to have a quick social content to hear what you have been up to and/or plan to be doing over the next coming weeks.  As per the now standard log-in to our ZOOM meting 's the link will be sent out tomorrow afternoon or early on Wednesday morning and with fingers crossed we may see an extended time frame for this weeks meeting without the need for x 2 links !!.

At this weeks meeting we should have a guest join us from Mt Eliza Rotary being Judy Coultas, who has asked if she could address our Members and Partners for special word of thanks.

Still up North

A few phone calls and some e-mail correspondence with a few of our members results in them" braving " the warmer weather and a somewhat more relaxed "stay at home" guidelines far North of the Border. Joe S has indicted that both he and Julie "are in no hurry to rush home to Melb" and plan a few more weeks away with family, and from what we see that doesn't sound like a bad idea. For young Ross K it seems as thou QLD has maybe outdone its welcome and its time to come home, with caravan in tow. As Victor and George-Ann maybe a few more weeks away with such a splendid view from the apartment will delay there return ??

 .. .
A room with a view from Victor & G-Ann, a bit hard to cope with, not !! and some great pics from Joe S ( aka All Aussie Adventures - Russell Coight) and the NT family adventure treks.

Birthday Wishes

This week we make mention of two of our Club Members who are celebrating a Birthday. Yesterday Jo-A Davie celebrated her birthday and today its Nicholas Lynch's turn to blow out the candles. On behalf of our President, The Board all our Members and their partners we wish to extend a very big Happy Birthday and lets hope in view of the stay at home you both still managed to make your day special with family and friends, Well done Jo and Nicholas.

District 9820 Conference

Two weeks ago our Club Secretary Ian H, sent out the e-mail to all members with the invitation form our DG, Bill Degnan to come along to the 9820 District Conference. All the details for registration, costing's, District Business, social activities, accomm and dining etc, can be found as per the attached link below. There is a vast array of activities on offer over the three day period that caters for all interests and needs.  With the 2021 District Conference that was somewhat curtailed, next year's Conference, should prove to be a highlight of our 9820 important events to attend. It would be great, after such a long delay, to see if we at Mornington, could get as many members as we can along to Traralgon in late Feb 22. A very a big thanks goes to our own Jo-Anne Davie who has kindly offered to be the Mornington Rotary Club coordinator as the POC for any of our members who are planning to attend. If you are planning to attend please register early and importantly please get in contact with Jo so she can "get our team" together.  Jo can contacted at : jodavie07@gmail.com or via SMS on 0412 235868.

Presidents Report 30th August 2021

Good after afternoon to all

This past week has very quite on events/ projects and general items of business from a Rotary perspective with a number of items.

Donation of Children’s Toys
With the donation of a number of toys to our Club via Tess Coady, as reported in the news article contained in last weeks Club Bulletin “ Toys in Need of a New Home” I can report that the distribution of these toys has been successful. A big thanks goes to Ian & Meredith H’s daughter Jaime, who volunteers for community based organisation of “ Mums Supporting Families in Need, who offer support for Mothers and Children who have suffered trauma from domestic violence. I’m sure the toys will bring a little comfort and pleasure to these children who need help to bring a smile and give a little joy into their lives. Well done and a big thanks to Jaime.

Well Wishes
Over the past week I have received a few items from some of our past and current members have passed onto me for a” special note of well wishes”, firstly young Dennis C will get’s his final does of “ Nuclear Bombardment” and when I spoke to him this morning he is very positive for a “clean ticket” and has a number of well wishes and interesting comments made in relation to his hair loss, seems to be looking a bit Kojack/ Yul Brynner these days.  To Geoff and Sandra C its all in the eyes, with a bit of a scrape and clean of the optics, take care and looks like the fashion accompaniment of Sunglasses might be on the agenda for a few weeks, and to Leigh P who is currently resting up in Belurea Private after what he describes as his “ongoing maintenance” for spending a few too many days out in the sun all those years ago, and finally one of our past Club Presidents in Jack Carter is under the weather with a few health issues. So all our Current and past Rotary colleagues, on behalf of the President, The Board and all our Members and their partners we wish you all the best and a speedy recovery.

General Club Business
Since my induction as your President many weeks ago its certainly been a first few months of what you might describe a “a very challenging task “. With only one face to face meeting thus far, to a large degree makes our normal Club Business matters having to be conducted in a ZOOM and/or e-mail format, not the best way to go. But it is what it is and we have to make the best of it and endeavour to ‘ carry on “. With such normal, customary and important matters as our Club Assembly, Financial Presentations and Individual Chair presentations have all had to be placed to some degree on the backburner.
I did have grand visions to present all these and more Club Matters via our ZOOM meetings but as the meetings formats over the past two months have taken us into another round of endeavouring to communicate via a “screen of faces“ I can see its not the ideal method.  My recent communication with four of our planned Guest Speakers, have all strongly indicated that after spending all day "at their desk“on ZOOM as part of their daily business operations they are not in favour of this media outlet for a Community Presentation.

I would still like to try to have a few Guest Speaker’s if possible and to have the presentations condensed so as to ensure that all participants “ don’t get too distracted “. I’m keen to see how the Lucas Mill in Gippsland went?

In regards to Club Assembly I believe this aspect of our Club business practices should be face to face to allow for full and open interaction, discussion and deliberation. If you think that we need to conduct Club Assembly via ZOOM then please let me know which way you would prefer to go ?

The one thing we need to do is to continue to engage with one another and until we are out of this stay at home environment I think we need to continue with our ZOOM meetings and try to encourage those who have not tuned in to join in at least one meeting.  The one thing that I have found very pleasing is the support and positive comments and thoughts I have received from many of our Members, this is very much appreciated and until we can get back together face to to face, have great day and keep smiling, stay safe, happy and healthy

Regards

Brian
