Upcoming DG Visit Club Meeting
Last week as you may recall on Wednesday just gone I sent out an e-mail inviting club members to pose to our DG any questions/concerns to be presented this coming Wednesday evening. It was pleasing to see quite a few positive responses and some interesting questions, thanks for those who responded and I have “sent thru‘ your inquires for our DG visit/presentation.
Peninsula Presidents Cluster Meeting
This morning the Peninsula Presidents Cluster Meeting was held, and it was great to hear from our fellow Peninsula Presidents as what each club is up to. One item of note that was common to all was the upcoming ARH Lift-the-Lid Mental Health Day on the 10th Oct 21. With our current restriction’s curtailing our ability to get out and walk as a club or walk in partnership with other clubs it was interesting to hear the “alternative ways” in which we can participate and raise funds. having said this There is plan to celebrate/ acknowledge Lift-the-lid at our Weekly Club Meeting scheduled for Wednesday the 13th Oct 21, with specific details to be promulgated shortly.
District Programs
This past week I spent a bit of time online viewing and listening to a very energetic and positive presentation form our District RYLA Team that provided an update to next years RYLA Camp to be held at Rawson in Jan 2022. Also there was a brief presentation in regards to NYSF, which will still proceed in early 2022 albeit on line as it cannot be conducted in the traditional 3 day setting in Canberra. The one thing that was very evident by the presenters was that even as we are still in lockdown there is a great vibe to “still go ahead“ with these great Rotary Projects, which is pleasing to hear.
Our “Own Backyard”
Reading thru our local MP News this week it was a bit sad to hear of the closure/complete shutdown, of not only ours but all the Peninsula Community Gardens. Talking to David L this week, this is one more Community outlet that has been very dramatically affected by the lockdown, and has now turned into one huge weed infested patch of ground.
On one of my recent trips around our town (to collect necessary Chemist goods) I views in on the Ranch Motel project and it was fantastic to see the residents, allowing for social distancing guidelines, out in the sun enjoying a bit of company. This is very pleasing to see those who only a few months ago who were most likely in a homeless situation now being able to have some small sense of community and fellowship. As we are all aware our Rotary Ethos for this year is to ‘'Serve to Change Lives“ and from what I observed their was a fair bit of laughter going on with what I presume was joke or two, and in some small way the support and financial assistance we have provided to the residents of the Ranch Motel might just have “opened the door“ for them to change their life albeit in a small way, and to have a connection with one another.
Even though it may seem “some time away yet“ our Social Director Pam, has been busy sourcing a venue that may be able to host our planned Club Christmas Function, and the results have yielded that the Mornington Golf Club “ has put up its hand and given us, subject to density limits, a green for go. Being a mid-week they are willing to “open up“ their function room and decking area to accommodate our Club, so keep the date free for Wednesday 08th Dec 2021.
