Build a Home

The need for safe and affordable housing for low-income families in Trinity Habitat's four-county service area is overwhelming. Trinity builds homes in partnership with low-income families that earn between 30% and 60% of Area Median Income (AMI). Trinity Habitat families average 3 persons and on average earn $26,544 annually, placing them at 45% of AMI.

Having a safe and decent place to live can bring stability and promise, family unity, hope and a foundation from which individuals can reach their full potential. Tangible evidence shows that the Habitat program makes a difference for this generation and the next. Studies show that children of homeowners read and behave better as families rise above the poverty level. Their social skills improve and their social life becomes more normal. They are less likely to be on welfare as young adults and more likely to attend college.

Trinity Habitat provides a hand up, not a hand out. Our partner families work very hard to become homeowners. They complete 250 hours of sweat equity on their homes and other Habitat projects, including 20 hours of Home buyers College wherein they learn about budgeting, legal issues, safety and security, financial stability, and how to care for their home, yard, neighborhood and city, among other home buyer education topics.

Most Habitat homes are about 1,150 square feet with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a one-car garage and are built with high-quality materials to reduce future maintenance costs. Trinity Habitat is the sole lender for all mortgages, and funds are loaned at zero interest for 20 to 30 years. The average monthly mortgage payment is $400-$450, including homeowners insurance and property taxes.
