                                After more than two years of conflict in Syria, families are displaced from their homes within its borders.  Others are fleeing for their lives into neighboring countries. 

For many Syrian families, this is a grim reality. They live in fear of the next attack. They have no idea what lies ahead.  They’re desperate for comfort and safety.

Qadria is just one Syrian woman who has lost everything. She fled Damascus when her house was looted and her husband was killed.

Today, she is living at Krwigorsk refugee camp in Iraqi Kurdistan with her daughters.

Together, we can help Syrian families in desperate need—people just like Qadria.

ShelterBox first responded to the Syrian refugee crisis last October, delivering emergency tented shelter and other lifesaving aid to families living at the Domiz refugee camp in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Shortly thereafter, ShelterBoxes were distributed across refugee camps in Jordan and to internally displaced families that remained within Syria’s borders. Advanced in our response to the Lebanese government’s request for aid, ShelterBox was the first humanitarian aid agency to distribute tents in Lebanon, addressing the need for thermally insulated shelter in the harsh winter weather.

Because of our generous donors who help us prepare aid in advance of disasters, we were able to respond quickly. For the last several months, we’ve continued to send aid—$1 million of emergency supplies—to the most vulnerable people in the region.  

 Almost a year later, we’re back in Iraqi Kurdistan—in response to the influx of Syrian refugees that have been pouring over the border. With the recent reports of chemical weapons attacks and no signs of an end to the conflict, it’s critical that we secure funding now to continue to help these families, as well as those who will be displaced by the next inevitable natural disasters or conflict.
