On Saturday, members of the global grant team in Costa Rica completed the last of three Rotary Foundation Community Assessments. While the first two assessments centered on processes and procedures of the staff at Camino a la Inclusion, this one focused on the families of children with autism. Our Host club, Cartago Rotary hosted Family Day at Camino a la Inclusion. Supervised by the therapists, the children played games that focused on coordination and balance. Inside, mothers attended a workshop led by Camino Director Karol Arias that focused on understanding the needs of a non-verbal child with autism. Cartago Rotarian, Teresa Chang is shown with the moms doing an exercise of “balloon dancing,” a technique to create intimacy with your non-verbal child.- Thankful to Karen McDaniels for this update!
