Explorium's Wish List
General Replacements Needed
- Our vacuum just went out. A new one would be fantastic. Maybe if we could get the carpet deep cleaned/steam cleaned? It has yet to be done in the almost 4 years I have worked at the museum.
- We need a new whiteboard for the party room.
- The mat at the bottom of the slide is currently being held together with duct tape and hope. Replacing it would be great!
Electrical
- We need a light switch installed in the blue block area to keep one set of lights on when necessary; it can get dark back there on cloudy days.
- There is a row of lights where the Make and Think area meets the floor that needs to be fixed.
- Our light table has some damage to the port where it only works at a certain angle. Additionally, the cord becomes a tripping hazard to children. We need some solutions.
- A switch on our light table needs to be looked at. Seems like a soldering job to me.
- We need someone with electrical experience to look at our operations table and rewire the tongs so the exhibit can be functional again.
- Stop motion also needs new buttons to keep the exhibit working properly. The Raspberry pi computer could use a reset. This is beyond my expertise, so I wonder if that is how I should describe it.
HVAC
- One of the motors is out in one of the HVAC units. Another unit needs a new filter installed. Size 20x20x2
Handyman
- Windows need to be resealed. We have a few areas on the front windows that have small gaps. Is it possible to get the window resealed and insulated with film? We need help keeping the building warm in the winter and cool in the summer because of the amount and size of windows.
- The wooden structure by the magnet wall needs to be tightened up.
- The cabinet in the kitchenette has a funky hinge.
- Our butcher block tables could use good resurfacing.
- The ceiling tiles in the party room are looking worse for wear. Getting them replaced would be amazing!
- The counter in the kitchenette needs to be fully flush with the wall. Would you need to be resealed?
- The stop motion table is not securely mounted to the wall. Additionally, the wooden letters at the top of the exhibit have fallen off, and an entire word is omitted.
- All hanging decor on the floor must be removed from pipelines and placed in secure, OSHA-compliant places.
- The shelf underneath the front desk is damaged.
Carpentry/Construction
- We would love something like the examples below for storage in the make and think area. Could this be built? 6 ft table top with cabinets underneath and wheels.
- A storage cabinet with locks for our pet supplies. This could also be built.
- One of our employees has created a design for a custom bearded dragon enclosure. We need materials to be purchased as well as 1-2 people to assist in the construction. A list of materials can be found here.
Painting
- Fresh paint in the party room, lobby, blue blocks area, and bathrooms would go a long way. Several corners and edges have chipping paint. Preferably Explorium colors that don’t make the space look smaller or get dingy-looking quickly.
- We have a stand for animal tanks that we would like to paint green/blue.
Piano Tuning/Repair
- Our piano needs tuning and some keys repaired. We miss our music being in its intended key!
Exhibit-specific Repairs/Replacements
- We are considering removing the pvc pipe slide and replacing it with a plastic slide. The noise is extremely loud when we are busy. It is over-stimulating for kiddos with sensory needs. Or some sound panels? I am not very excited to have to take the pipe slide down. Thoughts?
- We need a new fish tank, a filter appropriate to the size of the tank, and fish. Preferably a cylindrical tank so kids can get a 360 view of the fish. Something like this.
- The mirrors in our mirror maze need to be replaced.
Mount TVs
-We would love to hang a TV screen in the party room and possibly one in the front entry space
