many thanks to the work of Karen McDaniels! Additionally, Karen was asked to submit a video about the global grant we did in Costa Rica in 2018 for the Dec 4 program on Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality. It is so inspiring to know our little global grant had gone global!

Sept. 15, Karen McDaniels reported that the club’s application for Center for Children with Autism in Costa Rica Global Grant has been approved by District 5790 and pledged to receive DDF from clubs in the United States and Costa Rica, the Rotary Foundation World Fund 80% Match, and Cash and donors. The total amount for the Global Grant is $33,379. The following Rotary Clubs have pledged their DDF funds: Keller, Arlington Sunrise, Wichita Falls, Denton Noon, Mineral Wells, Arlington, Decatur, Southlake, Iowa Park. The host Club in Costa Rica pledged their DDF.
Next steps in the grant project:
- February 2024: Expected date for Global Grant to be approved.
- March 2024: Rotary Foundation transfer of funds to Cartago Rotary Club, Costa Rica. Denton Rotary completes wire transfer of cash to Rotary Club of Cartago.
- April 2024: First group travels to Costa Rica for service project.
- May 2024: Second Group travels to Costa Rica for a service project.
- Travel groups will be limited to 12 people. The Rotarians from clubs who pledged their DDF will get priority. That travel will also include visiting two other projects that District 5790 has completed: Culinary for Kids (2023) and Empowering Rural Costa Rica Women (2021).
