Want to Contribute To Our Club?

Chuck Bonza, Marsha Hobert, Dale      Ben and Sam Van der Werf
Bonza with the 2026 Friendship Card

Have you wanted to perform “Service Above Self” in our Club, but just not sure how? There are two tasks that need a member to assume leadership. One is being responsible for The Friendship Card. The other is taking photographs at our weekly meetings.

Chuck Bonza and myself ran Friendship Card production in 2025-2026. It involves checking with businesses if they want to continue honoring the Friendship Card with 10% or 15% discounts for the next calendar year. Then a new card and new brochures need to be produced. After that, it is a matter of making sure our team of members that pick up money and restock the stores that sell Friendship Cards, are adequately supplied.

The second task involves taking photographs at our weekly meetings. Usually it is a picture of the Speaker receiving a Piece of the Rock from our President. But it will also include pictures of new members being inducted, or really cute pictures like Sam Van der Werf taking the Duck Race hat President Jack Ford presented to his Dad, Ben, who is our Big Duck for 2027, and putting it on his head. Mostly, it is just having fun capturing pictures to send to Dave Evans for the latest edition of the Spoke.

If you are interested, please contact me at anneslack@aol.com or 970-231-6697. I have enjoyed both tasks, but it is time for me to pass them on to someone else.

Planting for the future!

On Tuesday, June 16, 2026  members of the Rotary Club of Estes Park joined forces with the Estes Valley Watershed Coalition (EVWC), Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley and a group of energetic young folks from the Lifeline church in West Jordan, Utah in a beautification project located at a very dry and hard retention pond located near the Habitat for Humanity lots on the 1700 block of Raven Ave.

Rotarians Jack Ford, Rick Life, Isaiah Johnson, Chuck Bonza and Scott Robbins were joined by about a dozen young members of the lifeline Church and three staff members of the EVWC. The project coordinator and head “cat herder” for the EVWC was Wilynn Formeller who was joined by staff member Ashley Kleen, and an Americorps River Corps member, Hilary Greenwood.

One of our more prophetic Rotarians, Jim Austin, who lives in the area warned us to bring a pick ax to the event. Well, we didn’t bring one but Jack Ford  took a timeout to walk over to Ace Hardware to buy one. And yes, Jim, it really did come in handy! We did a lot of weeding inside the boundaries of the pond and planted nice collection of Engelman spruce, Alders, and Service berry trees.

Hats off to Rick Life for taking on the largest mullein plant I have ever seen. If it was carnivorous, it would have devoured him in a minute!

Thanks to all who made this a successful event!

Estes Recycles Day Coming Up Soon

Estes Recycles Day will happen on Saturday, August 8th this year, including the Shred-A-Thon, an important fundraiser for our scholarship program. For the Shred, we are good with Volunteers. Once the flow slows down, people may leave as needed.  Tara would like to encourage a few people to return at noon to help clean up, too. To volunteer, see Tara.

John Denver Tribute Concert
With Link to Sponsorship Form Update

The John Denver Tribute Concert website has gone “live”. The concert will be held on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026 at the Ruesch Auditorium at the YMCA of the Rockies. Tickets can now be purchased at the Visitor’s Center and MacDonald’s Book Shop.

The website address is: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/john-denver-tribute-concert-tickets-1988557930300?aff=oddtdtcreator. There will be many opportunities to serve, but the first will be for all of the membership to become a sponsor. Sponsors will receive assigned seating with 4 tickets at the $500 or higher level, 2 tickets at the $250 level and 2 general admission tickets at the $100 level. Please give this important fundraising event your consideration and watch for an email with the accompanying material to be emailed to you soon.

The QR code for the event is:

The link to the Sponsorship Form is: JDTC Sponsorship Form 2026

Update from Tara:
We want to thank those who have already become sponsors for the concert and encourage those that have not to do so😊.  Also, I will be passing around a list of locations for a poster, and will want people to sign up for a (one) location to place a poster.  For example, Chuck took one to put up at the Presbyterian Church, Carl took one to put up near his office, etc.  Annie took one for Ace Hardware.  Pick a place you frequent, and put a poster there.
