This week's program:
What's new in your park and rec district?
The Estes Valley Community Center opened February, 2018, and has become an integral part of the recreation, fitness and wellness opportunities in Estes Park.
Tom Carosello and Dawn Wilson will be speaking to our club on Thursday, June 6, at the regular noon meeting. Please note the change in venue to Nicky’s Restaurant. Carosello and Wilson will provide an update on the Community Center as well as the new disc golf course at the Lake Estes 9-hole Golf Course, Stanley Park updates, and various other improvements throughout the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District.
Carosello was named the executive director for the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District in 2015, after having served in a similar capacity for the Town of Pagosa Springs for nine years. Prior to that, he was a journalist and grant writer who covered local sports, environmental, and government issues in Ohio, Arizona and Colorado. He has a B.A. in Sports Journalism and Public Relations from the Ohio State University.
Wilson is the marketing and communications manager for the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District since 2016. She leads the promotional efforts for all of the District’s businesses, including the golf courses, rec center, marina, campgrounds, recreation, and general District activities and events.

Sign up to sponsor the golf tournament!
As rising river levels, darting hummingbirds and greening golf courses signal spring’s arrival in Estes Park, it’s time to mark your calendar for the Rotary Golf Tournament for Scholarships, set for Saturday, June 29.
The 23rdannual event will raise funds for our Foundation Scholarship Fund. Annually, our club raises $24,000 for three, four-year academic scholarships for graduating Estes Park high school students. We recently awarded a total of $34,630 in academic and memorial scholarships to 11 members of the class of 2019.
The tournament will be held at the 18-hole Estes Park Golf Course, where the majestic mountain views are often known to distract golfers, Chairman Peter Sinnott said. The fun will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
“We have set our sights on raising more in sponsorships than we did last year, and our committee members are making those contacts now,” Sinnott said. “All sponsor donations are tax deductible and go toward local scholarships.”
Many sponsors have been recruited, but more are needed, Sinnott said. Levels include:
Named Scholarship Sponsor ($2,500 and above),
Diamond Sponsor ($2,000),
Gold Sponsor ($1,000),
Beverage Cart Sponsor ($750)
Silver Sponsor ($500),
Bronze Sponsor ($250),
Tee/Green Sponsor ($110), and
Junior Golfer Sponsor ($75).
Names of sponsors pledging $110 or more are displayed at the tournament and included in publicity prior to the event. In addition, sponsors who commit to $250 or more receive between one and eight complimentary player registrations, according to sponsorship level.
“We recognize our major sponsors on our tournament posters, banners and signs on the tees and greens at the event, and in newspaper articles. Our sponsors make the event possible, and we truly appreciate their contributions,” Sinnott said.
For information on how to sign on as a sponsor, please call Jay Harroff (970-227-3856) or Ron Gordon (970-586-0370) or download forms from our club website.
