Fourth Thursday committee work to debut this week

Our club is so much more than a weekly meeting and lunch with friends! The real work of a club happens at the committee level, and this week's meeting will give everyone the chance to engage in this important work.

Following lunch and a brief business meeting, members will be asked to gather in groups related to their interests. Do you like to guide fundraising? Then join the Fund Development Committee meeting. Is your passion mentoring and encouraging the youth of today to become the leaders of tomorrow? Then, join the Youth/New Generations table. Maybe you have signed up to do so much, like so many club members, that you'll have to bounce between tables.

You can see what you indicated as your area of interest at the bottom of your Spoke every week. But, fear not! It's never too late to join in, try something new, or simply "shop" for a group.

Here are the club members who will lead the small group work at Thursday's meeting:

Dave Evans - International Service
Dmitri Galcovski - Youth/New Generation Services
Kathy Groesbeck - Fund Development
Karol Rinehart - Club Administration
Randy Skeie - Sargeant-at-Arms
Rick Taylor - Programs
Scott Thompson - Membership
Roger Thorp - Community Service

Bring your energy, your ideas and your willingness to help the Rotary Club of Estes Park be a better club for all its members.

The fourth Thursday committee meetings are also scheduled for February 23, March 23, April 27 and May 25. You can make a difference!

January 19 meeting highlights

The January 19th meeting of the Rotary Club of Estes Park was called to order at noon by President Thor. An invocation was given by Jack Boatman, followed by a song and the pledge led by Dave Evans. There were no guests or visiting Rotarians. Karen Thompson, carrying on the tradition of really bad jokes, actually shared a really funny joke.

Announcements
  • Pete Sinnott thanked the 20 Rotarians who volunteered for Winter Fest. Karen and Scott came in 3rd with their chili and donated their winnings to our Foundation.
  • Debbie Delaney, Duck Race Committee, will be giving a prize update every week until the race. She asked for volunteers to help garner prizes.
  • Thor announced the 4th Thursday meeting will be a Club Committee meeting.
Happy Money
  • Doug Mann shared his daughter will be marching in the Inaugural parade.
  • Tara Moening thanked Pete for all he did for Winter Fest.
Program
Rick Taylor introduced Dave DeLuca, Executive Director of the YMCA of the Rockies, who presented the program.

Mr. DeLuca signed a book for the Library and we dismissed with the 4-way test.

A High Five for Trudy Collar, who served as greeter and also introduced no guests or visiting Rotarians!

Karen Thompson ably filled in for Scott in delivering a multi-cultural joke that the club enjoyed.

Peter Sinnott thanked the 20 volunteers who helped with last weekend's Winter Fest and netted  income for the club.

Bob Brunson got a new prune juice cocktail glass from a secret admirer at Winter Fest.

No excuses, said Debbie Delaney, for not hitting the 600 mark this year in merchant prize donations? Why? Because everyone is going to help!

Rotary helps with recuperation. Welcome back, Rob.

His daughter was a performer at the Inauguration and Doug Mann was happy.

Our presenter, Dave DeLuca, YMCA of the Rockies director, autographed a book that our club donated to the chlldren's library.

Rotary Quote of the Week

“On February 23, we will mark 112 years since the founding of Rotary ... Rotary has risen to so many challenges in its 112 years. We've answered conflict with peace, and poverty with education. We've responded to a lack of basic health care with projects large and small,  from equipping clinics in tiny villages to eradicating polio across the globe."

         ~John F. Germ, 2016-17 President, Rotary International
